Wondering if someone is familiar with this frog...

They have invaded my swimming pool, and set up a baby making mill. Now I have a pool full of tadpoles, which are free for the taking by the way.

I'd just like to know what I'm dealing with, thanks.

Looks like a gulf coast toad. They are everywhere around here. You could buy a kid's baby pool and transfer the tadpoles in there. Try catching as many as you can in a net and deposit them in the pool. Or you could let them develop into frogs, as long as you don't want to use the pool. Or give them away to neighborhood kids. Or catch them and take them to a nearby pond or stream. Whatever you do, don't try to chemically get rid of them. You will have a really big mess then.

No, I don't want to kill them...but I have the sump pump that's going to suck them all up and out into the alley...

I'd love to transport them all but it's not like 50, it looks like an easy 500-1000 (poss. more) of them swimming around.

Know of any local creeks in the Blanco/Lockhill Selma area?

Thank you for helping with the ID on the frog.

You do not want to eradicate them....after today's rains the insect population is going to mushroom (to include mosquitos) and that's what these guys eat. Once established they do well with little or no water and gobble lotsa insects. (And they'll disappear on their own.)

Yep, on George Rd between Lockhill and NW Military there is a pond. We took a turtle down there before. It's on the north side of George Rd. You may be able to put the tadpoles in by the road, since I'm sure it's flooding now.

I didn't know that those frogs could live in a pool with chlorine! those frogs are very common in so texas. thank you for wanting to help the little fellers out. when i was a boy, i once caught 35 of them in my back yard and then released them back. if you handle them, be careful. they tend to pee on you. poor guys are more scared of us than we of them. why not just let them grow into little frogs? they'll hop out on their own in no time at all once they develop legs to do so.

sure, place them right by the roadside, so they can get runned over when they venture outside of the water.
