Otherwise, we're very no frills. If it wasn't Texas, I'd say no water and electric needed, but if they have it, I'll take it! We're camping with a 10-month-old (she'll be 1 in July) and a 5-year-old. If it was just hubby and I, we'd love to hike in, but alas, too much to carry these days!
Water is great, but not a neccessity. Thanks so much. Will keep my eyes open.

Second that Guadalupe State Park is great for camping. If you are a swimmer, I would also recommend Ink's Lake State Park and Balmorreah State Park (a 4.5 hour drive west, but well worth it), and then Enchanted Rock for climbing/hiking.

You'll love Guadalupe River SP. Several of the parks that are close in proximity to Austin / SA do fill up pretty fast - about four weeks out seems to be the fill-up line. If you venture a little further, you can find some less-travelled gems... I recommend Colorado Bend, with the warning that they don't have full bathrooms yet -- still being developed. But it's beautiful. We also visited Llano River SP recently, and enjoyed playing in the river there as well. There were still openings there after every other nearby spot was full.

If I'm not mistaked, the various parks at Canyon Lake take reservations only for RV pads, the tent campsites are first come and usually have some open.

That would make sense as when I was looking, everything for tent camping on Canyon Lake was 'walk-up' only.

Just called Joe's place. They are crazy!!! $30.00 per day for the site is ok, but then it's $5.00 per person PER DAY ,and $8.00 launch fee, PER DAY something else I don't remember They literally charge you for everything, PER DAY!!! The site fee is just for the SITE!! No thanks.
