I am so Excited!!!! I had no idea that Alamo Drafthouse was going in at Park North...it is pretty much the only theatre I go to and I am glad that I don't have to drive as far now.

Does the Drafthouse have rules about people under 18 like the Bijou does? The Quarry is overrun with poorly behaved 15 year olds, but I hate driving out to Huebner Oaks or the Palladium for a more enjoyable experience because it feels wasteful when there's a movie theater five minutes away. Park North would be a good compromise if they can keep a handle on the teenager situation.

Yes...You have to be 18 to get in without an adult or guardian (they are VERY strict about that) and kids under 6 can't come in unless its a special movie or day...which makes it even better!

Actually, DH doesn't let people in under 18 EVER.

Unless it's a baby day or special event for the kiddies, they card diligently and even with a parent, don't let in under 18. I love it.

Now if they could only put those cell blockers in their theaters, I wouldn't have to deal with a**holes texting and talking through the movie. I wish some theater chain would bring back the usher concept: Someone who would actually patrol and throw out those who make the movie a craptastic experience.

"The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is an 18- and up establishment. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No children under 6 years of age are allowed except for Baby Day or “All Ages, with parent” designated shows. The Alamo Drafthouse caters to an adult clientele and strives to offer an entertaining and mature environment." -Alamo Drafthouse Website

The retail and the hotel are built out. Aside from the theater, it looks like the remainder will be offices. You can read about the businesses already open in the threads below.

This is great news! I've since left SA, but when I return I will be frequenting these new Drafthouses.

I'm just glad that I can still get my fix here in H-town.

I'm just a little sad that this new location only has 7 theaters. With the sheer size of the building, I'm thinking the layout of the seating is going to be much more luxurious, larger tables and much larger screens and sound systems. They do say it's going to be all-digital projection as well, which is fantastic for those who pay and want their money's worth when film-watching.

I just hope this new location doesn't go totally mainstream. What makes the DH an original is that they go out of their way to cater to the true moviephile: Midnight Rocky showings, director/actor Q&A screenings, Weird Wednesdays, anime, live events, etc. I felt that in the beginning, the Westlake location wasn't very Drafthousey at all and that it took them a good year to really start mimicking the trends of the original in Austin. Now that the concept of the DH is a franchise (and the ones in SA are not owned by the original Austin group), it takes a whole lot more discipline to put stuff on your screen that's interesting and unique... Not just a summer blockbuster and the newest Julia Roberts movie.

For now, I go to Bijou for truly independent films. DH is my stop for their special events and horror nights with anything by Dario Argento

Six theaters actually. It will show mainly mainstream films - definately will not be an art house. They will do Rocky Horror and perhaps Anime on a few weeknights too though so that is great.

I'll check it out next week at a soft opening. I was actually there last week and it was coming together...that and the LOL Comedy Club.

I always get the Godfather pizza myself, and it's never been bad! I love the Drafthouse. When I lived in Austin I thought it was strange they had "Alamo" Drafthouses, but when I moved to San Antonio I was like "Yay they have Alamo Drafthouse!" Even better is free Anime on Mondays! I try to make it as often as I can, and it's super rowdy! The pre-show is awesome. I really do hope the new location, which is closer to my house, will be just as fun-which I'm sure it will. Every single location I've been do has the same atmosphere, both Austin and SA.
