Hello,

I currently reside in Schertz and will be doing some weekly work in Kerrville for a few months traveling back and fourth, is there a route that I can take off I35N that will cut across to I10 instead of me coming down south on I35 and then taking 1604W and catching I10? Just curious if there is another option and if it would save be shorter than doing the latter.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

You can go north to New Braunfels or and make your way to Boerne on 46 and pick up I-10... but no matter which way you go that trip is gonna get old in a hurry. From where you are, 1604 to I-10 is probably going to be quicker.

FM 3009 to FM 1863 to FM 46 to Boerne, I-10 north to Kerrville.
This is the Route I used to use when on the Northeast side of the city and I was living in , Spring Branch. It is a scenic drive and not so long with far less traffic. This was back in the eighties..
I did however witness a Cadillac hit a big Whitetail Buck right out- in front of my car while driving southwest out towards- Garden Ridge one morning on FM 3009. The Deer just ran straight- headlong into the right front of the car.

Only problem with that route is what Huckster said....that was back in the 80's. Way more traffic now.
No matter what route you take, it's going to suck. 1604 to 10 is probably going to be the best bet . (Sounds weird saying that!)

I still travel to Fredericksburg pretty routinely.......and, yeah - much as it pains me to say it - 35>1604>10 is still the way to go, unless you're in the heart of the rush hour. 3009 and 46 have gotten way too heavily traveled!

IH35-1604-IH-10.

46 has some relatively good traffic until you hit the sprawl of Boerne--you have to drive through town to reach the highway. The road network in Boerne doesn't support movement from sprawl on the eastern side to the IH-10 ramps on the western side. Maybe 10 years ago or in 10 more years, but not now. Back roads and short cuts are just not efficient from Shertz.

Have friends doing the commute to west side from Spring Branch and even Bulverde...they have experimented without any real improved drive times.
