Crime Down in Texas, Up in San Antonio | WOAI.COM: San Antonio News

What do y'all think about this? Do you really think crime went up 17%? I know there is crime in SA but I don't think it is that bad. I'm surprised it says SA is higher than Dallas and Houston.

The apartment across the street from us got broken into last week in broad daylight. There have also been more car break-ins in our complex in the last month or so.

That's all I got - first-hand non-evidence.

The story is awfully vague. It matters very much whether violent crime or property crime is up more, yet the story doesn't elaborate on that detail. Depending on where the statistics came from, they could also mean that the reporting of crime is up. Perhaps the threshold of what crime people bother to report is lower now that more of them have less household income?

I also see the local news now reports when the the culprit is a Katrina evacuee. Houston kept a separate stat sheet when the crime was committed by an evacuee. Perhaps the Mayor's PC police have backed off.

More likely that the current mayor who welcomed them has a foot out the door.

I have a nice crowbar mark on my back door where someone tried jamming it open. I have two deadbolts in it. God forbid I catch someone in my house I would empty an entire clip in them.

Default San Antonio may top crime list

News | Video On Demand | KENS5.com

Dallas police changed the way they report crime and San Antonio takes the crown.

yeah, that's not cool -- we're one of the fatest and now we top the crime list.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." -- British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (popularized in the US by Mark Twain)

I don't care what method they use to calculate/falsify the crime rates, San Antonio is still a lot safer than DFW or Houston...

Cheers! M2

SA: Highest Crime Rate in the Nation? | WOAI.COM: San Antonio News

Look at this poll WOAI 4 has on their site.

Quote:
Do you feel…

…less safe in S.A.? (56.7%)

…more safe in S.A.? (6.8%)

…my safety’s about the same in S.A.? (36.6%)
I can't believe that many San Antonioian's don't feel safe here. I've never had any problems here before. I agree Dallas and Houston are less safe than here.
