Metro Population
I was just visiting the Houston forum and found an interesting thread. They were talking about the under counted illegal population in Houston.

Agreed. They seriously undercount the undocumented population here, which I would estimate it at 650,000 to 1M.
|
Which brings me to the question, how under counted is San Antonio? Any thoughts?

Good question... I've been googling and I found this
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR): Immigration Impact: Texas
Approximately 26.2 percent of the total population increase between 2000 and 2006 in Texas was directly attributable to immigrants.
FAIR estimates the illegal alien population in 2005 at 1,618,000, which ranks 2nd in the U.S. for the FAIR estimate. This number is 55% above the U.S. government estimate of 1,041,000 in 2000, and 269% above the 1990 estimate of 438,000.
But I haven't found anything more specific yet. I would think the SA Current might have done a story on this??

I bet we have at least 350,000- 400,000 under counted in SA which would bring our totl from 2,035,000 to 2,385,000 or 2,435,000. Anyone else?

Seems pretty high to me but I could be way off. I would say 100,000-150,000

Of course this will always be speculative, because if you knew what the undercount really was, then it wouldn't really be an undercount, right?
If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably in 50-100K range in San Antonio.

It is almost impossible to know,
my 1st language is Spanish and I've met hundreds of latino immigrants that barely spoke English.
How many illegal immigrants have I met?
I have no idea. Because I don't know who was here legally and who was here illegally.
Those estimates rely 100% on word of mouth. Because there's no other way to know who is legal or illegal.

Absolutely. If I was illegal and you asked me there is no way I'd admit to it
