Cheap but Amazing- Sazon, The Cove, La Tuna, Madhatters, Piccalos, Turquoise Grill, Godai, Tiagos, Bigz, Asia Kitchen

If you want some amazing Mango Margaritas, hands down, Titos in Southtown have the best! I love that they put actual fruit in them! YUM!
I have to say bravo to these recs, but would substitute Tre for Dough on the moderate list. Dough is WAAAAY overrrated, and Tre is fantastic (although I've noticed a bit of a slide lately while the Dady brothers focus on their new BBQ restaurant). Also am eagerly awaiting the opening of Andrew Weissman's Il Sogno's at Pearl Brewery sometime in the next 4-6 weeks. Don't know yet if that one will fall into the high end or moderate price range.

BTW - hurray for the Cove and Tito's! Some restaurants just make life in SA better

Edit: Dang, I forgot India Palace! When I got back from India and was craving a fix, India Palace was amazingly authentic and super good... plus awesome prices.

NeedCoffee is on a distinguished road
High - Le Reve
Moderate - The Grill at Leon Springs (not quite San Antonio, but close enough), Tre Trattoria
Cheap but amazing - India Palace, Europa Deli (in Stone Oak), La Tuna

It's not New York, but I'm thankful that San Antonio has enough variety to please a promiscuous palate.

Cheap but Amazing: LUTHER'S. Seriously, I am obsessed with this place. It is a miracle. Also Thai Dee - super cheap, and they deliver to Alamo Heights. I am in love.

I could stomach Luthers if they hired a staff that seemed to give a crap about their jobs. The last two times I was there, I actually got up and left. Inexcusable service. I'm not going back.

Sad, as I do enjoy their food. Nice mix of homestyle. I'm not a fan of their burgers (what they are seemingly known for) and would rather walk down to Armadillos if I had my 'burger choice.'

Overall, I have many favorites in San Antonio, but what it really all comes down to for me is CONSISTENCY: The best restaurants in the world offer that same great, just-fallen-in-love feeling over and over again without trouble. SA has an issue with providing a great first experience and then letting it all go to hell the second and third visit. Unfortunate, but usually true.

$100-150 for two people is moderate? Tasting menu ($35 per person) with no drinks and tip is about 100 dollars for two at Bistro Vatel. Appetizer, two entrees, inexpensive bottle of wine, dessert, and tip is about 150 dollars at Olorosa.

Given that Le Reve will run you over $200, $100 seems moderate

I guess it just depends on what someone orders. Order everything seperate at Bistro Vatel and a bottle of wine, and you're over $200 easy. Next time I'll order the $80 Kobe beef at Bistro Vatel!
