Taco Cabana on 1604 and Potranco(I think). That's the best one I've eaten at in a while. The food tastes fresh there unlike many have lately. Also, did you guys know they have 1.50 margs from 4-7 Mon-Fri? They be yummy.

Last restaurant ...
Today's lunch: at Steak and Whisky on Josephine St. I had a daily special: Chicken breast with garden salad, mashed potatoes and broccoli ($6.99)
It was yummy!!! The chicken breast was perfectly grilled - nicely brown outside and very juicy and soft inside. Good seasoning, not to salty. Mashed potatoes were soft but not runny, broccoli steamed just right.
The place, located in a old, historical building, was crowded at the lunch time, but the service was prompt and friendly. Patio seats available, plenty of parking space. I will definitely go back!

Mac and Earnie's Roadside Eatery in Tarpley. I tasted my husbands cabrito burger and it was awesome. The fried catfish was very good, also, and I don't even like fried seafood. I just got a regular cheeseburger and it was very good. They make them with grassfed beef.

Barbaresco - Fantastic! http://www.barbaresco.net/index.htm
The ambiance is spectacular. Hand crafted chairs and bar chairs from Guadalajara Mexico. Hand crafted wood accents, specialty lighting and a roomy set up create a visually appealing and comforting bar area. The restaurant is quite large and features beautiful paintings, most notably a large and exquisite painting of a young, female musician in the bar area. Truly spectacular.
The wine list is sufficient and very, very reasonably priced. Our waiter was able to help us choose a bottle based on our preferences
The menu offers a choice of pasta and sauce as a half ($7) or full ($12) order. I had a half order of the linguini with gorgonzola sauce and it was truly delicious and very generous - boxed at the end of the evening. A side of asparagus was perfectly grilled and more than enough to share between two people...a nice cold and crispy snack today. Hubby had the mushroom risotto which he said was fantastic, again a large order that led to a box at the end of the evening. He started with the Minestrone soup with pesto and thought is was great.
We shared the vanilla and pecan sponge cake. It was served so creatively, practically "deconstructed". The crusted and ice cream filled sponge cake was served next to a strawberry topped pool of a coffee type cream sauce and next to that was a line of chopped nuts.
We had 8pm reservations that I had made over the phone with a very accomodating hostess who had gladly discovered the answsers to a few menu questions I had. We were sat right away. We had the fabulous opportunity to meet the chef and floor manager as well, the overall feel of the staff is so hospitable and very warm and friendly - but not overtly so. Left by 9:45.
We will definitely be back very soon.

Mickel's Catering & Cooking over on E. Houston. It's a very good Southern/Soul Food restaurant. I had the fried catfish which was very moist and well seasoned with lemon and pepper. I also had greens, and macaroni & cheese. Both side items were very good, the mac & cheese had just a hint of the browned cheese on top, YUM! The greens, were greens...good, but not great. The chef also let me sample a bowl of his gumbo which is thick, and flavorful on top of some perfectly cooked white rice. The place is really nice, lots of windows so there is plenty of light. The true test will be on my next visit, I like to measure a soulfood restaurant by its fried chicken.
I was very glad to find out about this place just driving by, decided to come back and was not disappointed.
