I was thinking about trying The Lodge but am not so sure after reading this. Service is important.

Sushi Zushi @ the Colannade for lunch today. "Dining Companion" (daughter ) and I got there just moments before the lunch crowd and were seatly promptly. Waiter attended to us quickly and brought our drinks and got our order. THEN the wait began. OVER 30 minutes before our order arrived, and no refills of water/ice tea while we waited. Sushi and sashimi were "eh". Had I known the wait would be so long, I woulda traveled a coupla extra miles to go to Godai (was attending a class very close to SZ).

(Had lunch at Godai on Monday, it was delish and great service as always!)

I emailed and did not hear back, I called tonight and was told that Mondays are "hit and miss" and sometimes the chef decides to close.

On Monday night, I had left a voice mail that was not returned.

I am flabbergasted. Astounded, shocked.

Last night, we ventured to chain world and tried J Alexanders. Ehhh.

If I didn't know where I was, the building & menu designs scream Houston's. Unfortunately, the food was not on par with the other chain.

I had the ahi tuna rare with a ginger glaze. I was pleasantly surprised to see the fish wasn't swimming in sauce when it arrived. On the other hand, the portion was ridiculously large as expected. Flavor was okay, but the texture suggested previous freezing. C+, but not a $27 piece of fish. I opted to try the mac & cheese. overplayed or not, i always like to try it. Molten cheese and bacon fat aren't bad things. I would give their mac effort a B. Cole slaw was a B+/A-.

Wife went for the crab cakes and they were very good for a chain. Not perfect, but a nice blend of lump & breading. These were very enjoyable and worthy of a B+. I can't say these were $27 crab cakes, but I would order them again if I found myself there.

My wife also noticed an asparagus special when we were walking in. The waiter noted that is came with alfredo (chain cliche), but he could leave it off. We left it off. The asparagus was watery and cooked to limp. D-

I wouldn't give them a cent, not like they care though.

Have just spent the last 6 weeks in Italy where I've been absolutely overwhelmed by how amazing "everyday" food (especially produce) is there and how poor the typical food we get in our grocery stores/restaurants is in comparison. It's been a real eye-opener that makes me much more choosy about my restaurant experiences here in SA.

That said, Naples has VERY few ethnic (i.e., anything other than Italian) restaurants and I have been craving some good sushi, Indian, Thai and Mexican food. My first meal back in SA was machacado eggs and breakfast tacos (papa y chorizo, migas, and country & egg) at El Milagrito yesterday morning. Mmmmm. A little on the salty side, but oh my god it was good to be back in the Tex-Mex capital of the universe. Sadly, coffee here will never live up to what I've been drinking, so I'm going to have to stick to Big Red for a while.

Stone Werks @ The Rim. A business lunch & the location was not my choosing. I "grew-up" drinking at the original and have been to the 1604 outpost a couple of years ago. I had no idea there was 1 tucked into the Rim.

The design and layout was impressive. I particularly liked the floor to ceiling glass wine tower/cellar. Unfortunately, it was filled with plunk top to bottom. The space is open and marries stone and wood well. There were also large lcd tv's strategically placed that would make this a great place to catch a game.

The food & menu were surprisingly inviting. The table ordered queso and it was done well. B+. I ordered oysters on the 1/2 shell (A) and tortilla soup (B+) and both impressed. An ahi tuna burger ordered by the person next to me looked as great as they claimed it tasted. Not 1 complaint from the table. I would gladly go back to this location.

Aldaco's in Stone Oak last night on the patio. La Botana and Enchilladas Verdes, margaritas, Tres Leches. All good. Watched sunset over San Antonio and full moon rise.

Auden's on Sonterra. Ok - had braised short ribs, another had chicken.

The menu is a touch limited on seafood entrees but that's ok. Food was good but not spectacular. Service was competent. Chocolate mousse desert was fairly standard.

Layout - nice.

It's competent but not drop dead gourmet gorgeous which I think it tries to be.
