I tried Royal Pizza on De Zavala yesterday. The Older man who was working there seemed pretty put off by having to fix me a Pizza, I was the only one in there. I wouldnt call the food bad but there are so many better choices.

Sylvia's on Medical. Staff there is always a little quirky and I've had my fill of it.

Order came out completely wrong, took forever, staff was very rude about it, and the food was so bad when I got it home that 90% of it hit the garbage. Real shame we lost Cafe Nyoshi and this place took that location.

Definitely off the list.

No, sorry. "Marie" roasted potatoes should have been "Marmite" roasted potatoes. I just blindly accepted the spell correct changes....lol. Marmite is a British yeast extract. It is a very thick, dark brown paste, with a very unusual flavor. We cheated a bit on the English version of this dish. They boil the potatoes, then use a melon baller to scoop out small, rounded portions of potato that they then pan fry briefly in goose fat, then oven roast to golden brown. Once finished, they are tossed with a bit of Marmite to impart the flavor. We used small golden new potatoes and pan fried them in the drippings from the bacon wrapped smoked turkey, then tossed in Marmite.

You can find Marmite at HEB, Whole Foods, World Market, etc. It is a love/hate thing. People either love it or hate it. I can't do it on toast like the Brits, but love it on some spuds.

Thai Dee on Blanco Rd for my birthday,...excellent staff, nice portions(I had garlic chicken), and the place was packed on New Years day, I must add they have a red hot/sweet sauce that is so very tasty...( I almost posted this sauce for the best salsa/chips, but they don't serve chips)

Texas de Brazil... Houston Street, Downtown SA.

The best option on this side of the city for Brazilian steakhouse fare. Almost totally empty tonight. Great service and their wine list is impressive... Went with a delicious Viader cab franc that you could paint a wall with. Love their picanha. Gigantic salad bar that's well-stocked. Best feijoada in town.

How would you compare it with Fogo de Chao?

Thanks for posting that, I've always wanted to try Thai Dee. Now I have a reason to.

In SA, I like it better than Fogo. Chama beats them all, hands down, but it's in the boondocks and these days I only prefer to travel into Stone Oak at gunpoint.

Fogo's salad bar isn't as large and their dining room is TINY. I always feel so cramped when I've been there. Lots of traffic there too... Rivercenter makes the whole experience feel so mall-like, rather than somewhat upscale. Texas De Brazil on Houston made great use of an old building and is much more upscale in general.

Thai Dee is probably the best Thai in the city, although the location is a little "weird." The sauce for their "spicy green beans" dish (one of their "specials," I believe) has to be one of the best curries I've ever tasted. So very, very yummy.

What are the prices like?
The menu on their web site has no prices, which makes me wonder if I should even go...
