Went to the Pre-Opening Party at Fogo de Chao. Not bad. I think Chama Gaucha is a tad better. Service was a little hectic, considering it was the first day of service, but very good. They will open to the public tomorrow.

Default Il Sogno...

I came. I saw. I ate.

Il Sogno: Pearl Brewery. Today for lunch.

It's a simple dining room, almost spartan in design and very noisy thanks to a tin roof without any insulation. Very little art on the walls. Small flower arrangements that looked strange against the large, white walls. Interesting LED-based wine bottle chandelier in the center of the space, but not large enough to be considered a 'show piece.' I liked the bar space, but didn't much care for the main dining room. The chairs need felt-spacers on the bottoms of the legs to keep from making a horrible screeching sound.

Good wine list. All Italian offerings. Very moderately priced.

I had the mozzarella stuffed with ricotta for a starter: It tasted wonderful, but smelled awful. The combo of toasted ricotta with roasted garlic made for an overpowering aroma. Highly recommended, but only if you have nose-plugs. We also had a small trio of offerings from the anti-pasta bar (roasted tomato, fruiti de mare, fava bean spread): It was quite nice, very fresh and presented beautifully.

Everyone at the table had the gnocchi. It was presented simply and what some might consider 'bland.' I liked it quite a bit, as without much salting, it allowed the true flavor of the meal to come through... The mozzarella, the bolongnese, the perfectly cooked gnocchi. It was a nicely-sized portion and served piping hot. I finished it all off with one of the best double-espressos I've had in quite some time. Overall, a great entree and decently good experience for this lunch service.

The service was impeccable, if not a bit overbearing. I knew what kind of wine I wanted from the initial look at the wine list, but their sommelier insisted on giving his schpiel anyway. As they're still in their infancy as a eating spot, I'd say that Il Sogno can only get better from here on out. Aside from a rather cramped dining space, I'd come back soon to see what their offerings for dinner are and re-evaluate.

I would LOVE to see how a normal human being could consume 5000 calories a day, while truly eating CLEAN. I mean, bodybuilders and major athletes aside (since most of the time that's their "job", so they have the time to dedicate to that).

I eat 6 times per day, and in addition drink 2 weight gainer shakes which consists of almost 1000 calories combined. I also regularly eat all natural peanut butter inbetween meals which helps. Now I don't always eat this way, only when I am bulking up. My grocery shopping bill is around $200 per week as I shop every 3 days.

The HEB meat department knows me by first name. I eat about 7 pounds of chicken, 3 pounds of lean ground beef, and 3-4 pounds of steak in a week. When you break down your meals every 2 hours it ends up being a lot.
