Luby's - it was convenient but never again. The selection of main courses has gone to .... All fried junk or junk stewing in unknown liquid grease or whatever. Veggies were ok but - next time I'd just get mac and cheese as compared to unknown fish with unknown goo.

Mark's Outing -- AKA Fatty's Burgers on 1624 E. Commerce.

First time there, my party went for lunch, but didn't know what to expect.

I ordered the 1/2 lb bacon cheese with a large order of onion rings.

My party ordered 1/2 lb mushroom burger, with rings and a 1/2 lb avocado/jalapeño burger with rings.

After ordering, we were invited to partake of the complimentary all-you-can-eat bean pot, which contained mild flavored home-style borracho beans. THEY WERE GOOD... REALLY GOOD.

Soon our food arrived delivered to our table by the owner's son, I am assuming him to be 7-8 years old.
In between orders, he was cleaning tables and asking other patrons if they needed anything. It was a sight to see. He was really enjoying himself. It was refreshing to see this young man tending to his parent's customers with the caliber and tenacity of only the most experienced and diligent wait staff.

My burger was... like... WOW. Cooked just right...full of a homemade flavor, big-for a 1/2 pound, yet just right. The bun was toasted to perfection and the bacon did not disappoint. The beer basted onion rings were some of the best I have ever had.

One member of our party tends to be a little overzealous in regards to being health conscientious. She was the first one to finish her burger and rings, THEN WENT BACK FOR MORE BEANS!

Needless to say, there was not room for deserts, however the chocolate cake and peach cobbler looked very enticing. If their deserts are anywhere on the level of their other menu items, I am certain that they too are worthy of such praise.

Our overall experience was very satisfying and exceeded expectations, and the consensus has agreed to put Mark's Outing/Fatty's Burgers on our rotation of lunch venues.

What do you mean by, "cooked just right"? Will they cook to order or is everything well done?

It was cooked medium+, but not quite medium-well. Enough to darken the center without drying out.
They will cook it to order, just tell them how you want it and it is done!

^^^ I think they are moving next door. They started to renovate the place. VFW moved out.
A bit pricey for the size, IMO, but their BBQ is tasty!

Garbanzo's in Huebner Oaks - pretty good gyro.

Jim's on Broadway near Hilterbrandt - convenient for work - but definitely downhill on service and food.

Good Time Charlies - great catfish sandwich. CFS is good but not awesome despite winning the contest

Demo's in the Vineyard (1604 & Blanco).

I've eaten there 3 times now, and the food is always good.
The problem is (and there's no easy way to say this) the people who work there are not very sharp.
You have to repeat things many times, because they don't seem to understand (and yes, they speak english). It's very strange, and somewhat frustrating. I try to be patient though, because the gyros are good.

The problem is, the gyros they (and most other places) serve is not even resembling the real Greek dish...
