Mickel's Catering & Cooking over on E. Houston. It's a very good Southern/Soul Food restaurant. I had the fried catfish which was very moist and well seasoned with lemon and pepper. I also had greens, and macaroni & cheese. Both side items were very good, the mac & cheese had just a hint of the browned cheese on top, YUM! The greens, were greens...good, but not great. The chef also let me sample a bowl of his gumbo which is thick, and flavorful on top of some perfectly cooked white rice. The place is really nice, lots of windows so there is plenty of light. The true test will be on my next visit, I like to measure a soulfood restaurant by its fried chicken.
I was very glad to find out about this place just driving by, decided to come back and was not disappointed.

Friday- takeout from India Oven and it was delicious as ever. Vindaloo, Makahani, tandori, saag, and nan were all terrific.
Saturday lunch- Il Sogno. AW was in the kitchen but the sommelier was missing and service was weak this time. We were seated w/o a wine menu and had to ask for it when the waiter tried to take our food orders. I also noted we did not recieve the customary offering of fresh fruit with our water. On the bright side, my pizza and my friend's pasta were executed flawlessly. The sauce on my friend's pasta was perfectly balanced.

Tonight @ Tre on Broadway. Their pork belly appetizer is incredible. I've yet to have a disappointing meal at this place.
I'm looking very much forward to Jason's new eatery, opening mid-this month in the restaurant space at the Fairmont Hotel.

Yesterday at lunch--Schilo's on Commerce. The service was abyssmal, but the Reuben totally made up for it!
Tonight for dinner--Carmens De La Calle Cafe on Mistletoe and St. Mary's. What a gem! We just happened to drive by and stopped for dinner. We sat outside on the great patio and enjoyed good wine and some fun tapas. We had the Moroccan sausage, hatch chili empanadas, and seafood gratin. Norma Jean who works the door is a hoot, and we had a lovely conversation with Willard who owns the Willard's Jamaican Jerk Barbecue joint next door. Truly one of the more entertaining nights we've had since moving to San Antonio!
