I went to El Fenix in Dallas a couple of days ago, and it was great as usual. But I don't know if there are El Fenixes in NM. Probably not, since it's Tex-Mex. Really good, regardless.

Probably Pete's ! I haven't been in there in many years and not sure it's same owners. My sons were in town from Cal. and the oldest used to go to the Jail House Cafe and later Lulu's for lunch occasionally. Think he just wanted to check it out again. We have our south side "big chicken fried steak" place with varying quality and cleanliness. Been in business at least 50 years though. Would have been much nearer too!! Oh well..I was along for the ride this time.

I ate at Romeo's in Stone Oak the other day. Really nice atmosphere and decor inside, but the italian menu is pretty pedestrian. Sadly, so is the food. Not bad, but not great. Nothing I'd run back to. Plus our waiter, while attentive, was but brusque.....and surly.

Oh I miss that place, I used to work nearby and frequent it during lunch hour. Good stuff. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Sushi Zushi, delivery, downtown location...

Good, but like all of their stuff, it's overpriced for what you actually get. I only order their Chicken Katsu Curry and it's always packed nicely, stays warm through delivery and includes a full amount of semi-sticky white rice. Yum.

There is a foul odor in Lulu's. I took some friends to grab a cinnamon roll to go and that is the 1st thing they said when we went in. Pete's Tako House (their spelling) is still the same people and a great spot for breakfast tacos. Love the picture of the Pope-mobile rolling by.

Menger Hotel - downtown - overpriced. Nothing special, at all.

Spent half that money at Mencius - much better.

Cool Cafe on DeZavala - pretty good, very tasty.

Just a comment - We've eaten a few $100 or so dinners lately that haven't been as good as Mencius or Sea Island. A $38 salmon comes out of the same ocean or farm as a Sea Island one.
