Smile Creamy Flan Recipe

The hubby just made this for the first time, we can't wait to eat it!!!

Creamy Caramel Flan

Submitted By: Jo Poynor at www.allrecipes.com

Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Ready In: 8 Hours
Servings: 10

"This flan has condensed and evaporated milk as well as cream cheese to give it a thicker texture."
Ingredients:
3/4 cup white sugar
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese,
softened
5 eggs
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.
In a small, heavy saucepan over medium-low heat, cook sugar, stirring, until golden. Pour into a 10 inch round baking dish, tilting to coat bottom and sides. Set aside.
3.
In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated. Beat in condensed and evaporated milk and vanilla until smooth. Pour into caramel coated pan. Line a roasting pan with a damp kitchen towel. Place baking dish on towel, inside roasting pan, and place roasting pan on oven rack. Fill roasting pan with boiling water to reach halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
4.
Bake in preheated oven 50 to 60 minutes, until center is just set. Cool one hour on wire rack, then chill in refrigerator 8 hours or overnight. To unmold, run a knife around edges of pan and invert on a rimmed serving platter.

24 years in SA and I've never had flan! I can feel my arteries clogging just reading those delicious ingredients, though! What's not to like when sweetened condensed milk hooks up with more sugar and cream cheese?

Where's a good place in SA to try flan? Besides your house, since I'm sure you don't want all 8769 of us over tonight?

Is that the coconut drink? I've seen the "mix" for that in a store somewhere, but I've never tried it. Believe it or not I've never had "tres leches" cake because no one will tell me what that third milk is.

the one we ate last night had more of a cheesecake texture instead of that all out custardy texture, i think we might add a bit more cream cheese next time with a hint of cinnamon...
some people would say this is not a true flan, but we don't care we like it anyway...

Guajillos on 410 and Blanco has really good desserts... they have amazing 3 leches cake, and flan!!! It is not a Tex-Mex restaurant, it is as authentic as you will get for Mexican food in San Antonio
