Have you been to HEB on a day when the Cowboys are playing? There are people wearing Cowboys shirts and hats everywhere, stocking up for the game. Have you been to a Dallas Cowboys practice here in town? They're full of fans.
We will not support another team, it would be a waste of time.

Baseball, people...that's where it's at. We need a MLB team.
What a defeatist mindset. Since we have no other option, and native SAers have decided to support a team from another city, we'll never support a team with the name San Antonio in front of it? I seriously doubt that.

When the Oilers left Houston, 90% of the fans stayed behind and adopted the Texans, 10% are sad Titans fans. I would expect the same impact if SA were to get a team of our own.

Calm down, it's just a joke.

Personally, I don't care if we EVER get a pro sports team of any kind. Having looked at the various cities that DO have 'em over the years, it appears to me that they tend to suck more resources out of a community than they give - both in terms of hard dollars and less direct ways.
You are 100% right. Taxpayers end up paying for stadium, roads, etc, etc. and then when we go to enjoy our brand new team, we find out that we have to spend $100 per person to enjoy the game at the stadium.

I agree, it is a totally defeatist mindset and unfortunately there is a lot of that kind of negative thinking in San Antonio and on this board in particular. To think that San Antonians would not support a local NFL franchise because there are so many Dallas fans is completely ridiculous.

Back in the early '90's people in Charlotte thought a local team would never fly because there were so many Redskins fans as a result of the team being broadcast so much down there. For decades in fact. But alas when it came time to host and buy tickets for their own team the local fans turned out in droves in support of the new franchise and the rest is history.

The same thing can and probably will happen in San Antonio one day. I for one am optimistic about it.

Great, reasonable, thought out post. I would love to see more like this on the forum.

I would say that you are right...
except that people in San Antonio seem to support blindly support the Cowboys.

When I first moved here (2 years ago) I was surprised that people talk about the Cowboys 365 days of the years. Specially since I lived in Kansas City and St. Louis where people talk about NFL for only 6 months of the year.

It's not just Cowboys support... it's blind support of the Cowboys.

When the Saints played here after Katrina, there was lots of local support, so I would tend to agree with you. Sure, there will always be Cowboys fans here (just like there are Lakers fans ), but most local pigskin fans would almost assuredly switch their support to a local team.

First of all, what is "San Anto?". Secondly, there are more as many Cowboy haters here as Cowboy fans, we're just not as obnoxious. Bring on the NFL.

I've been a hard core Cowboys fan since I was a kid, but I would stongly support a local team. I would even buy a season pass even if I break the bank...hey if our neighbors in Monterrey, MX can support TWO soccer teams, I'm sure we can support one NFL franchise...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If this was a money making deal all the richy riches would be lining up to put an NFL team here. I don't see any line forming. I for one would welcome an NFL team if someone wants to build the stadium and ifrastructure to support it and the team and all it cost me is the price of admission when and if I want to go but that's not how it will work. The tax payes will be gleaned of money we don't want to spent so that a few rich poeple can get richer. No Thanks.
