NEISD...Anyone know difference in these TOP elementary schools near Reagan High ????? (New Braunfels: apartment complexes, to rent)

We are moving my daughter from New Braunfels to the Reagan High School Area ( neisd.net/reagan ) . It's now an easy choice for school ratings and sports.

BUT, there are three exemplary rated elementary schools that feed Reagan. My daughter is already upset she's leaving her first grade friends behind and Id' hate to rent a home near one, and find out we are buying 5 minutes away in different school zone because she and her younger sisters would be better off at the other!

Anyone know the slightest difference between....

We visited them all after hours and they seem close to Reagan. It appears there is a difference in size in school and playground.

Wilderness Oak feeds into Tejeda MS. The other two feed into Bush MS. Tejeda is superior to Bush, but Tejeda is capped (http://www.neisd.net/boundaries.htm - broken link), which means your kids might not get to go there anyway.

Thanks Bowie! Would the consensus say that Wilderness Oak turns out the higher rate student which subsequently has an effect on making Tejeda better?

Do you know what makes Bush not as good? In what way?

Tejeda looks like it's near Johnson? How did it come to be that kids have to go by three other schools and cross 281 to get to their middle school? Im confused.

What about Lopez Middle School? It looks like its right next to Hardy Oak?

My opinion is based on test scores, academic competition performance and news media reports of bullying and behavior issues at Bush. Tejeda's arguably the best MS in NEISD. FWIW, my kids go to/went to neither of those schools.

Ah, Lopez is fairly new and I forgot about the attendance area shuffling that happened for Lopez.


It turns out that none of those schools you asked about are in the Johnson Cluster, which is:
Bulverde Creek Elementary School (full attendance zone)
Canyon Ridge Elementary School (part of attendance zone)
Encino Park Elementary School (http://www.neisd.net/encinop/index.htm - broken link) (full attendance zone)
Roan Forest Elementary School (full attendance zone)
Bush Middle School (part of attendance zone)
Tejeda Middle School (full attendance zone)


Which means none of them feed into Tejeda.

Middle schools aside, anything you can add about the elementary options?

It seems like Wilderness Oaks is the biggest and lists some more programs on its website. None have much of a website.

I am trying to make sense of traffic reports from some other threads to see if there is an ideal route.

Wilderness Oak is a very large elementary school, but might be capped. You may want to check into that. There is another elementary school in this immediate area as well -- Canyon Ridge, which is also a good size and is capped. Both are decent schools from what I see and hear.

My child will attend Hardy Oak next year and I am thrilled!! The school is known well for its excellent principal and teaching staff. Hardy Oak feeds into and is located directly across the street from Lopez Middle School, which just opened two years ago. I've heard nothing but good things about Lopez as well and the school appears to offer strong academic and athletic programs -- many of which have already won numerous awards despite Lopez being so new.

Tejeda is also a great middle school, is located on the east side of 281 and feeds into Johnson High. However, they just capped Tejeda in April and overflow students will be attending Bush next year.

Bush is having some problems of late it seems -- mainly with out-of-control students. Police have been called to the campus on a number of occasions, most recently to break up a food fight that got out of hand and to arrest two students who were engaging in some "inappropriate behavior" on school grounds. Yikes!

Thanks Stoneoak! Where are the good places to live where we can drop our children off at school without getting stuck in traffic? Any suggestions? Cost is not major factor... but we are trying to target area with realtor.

We will be driving down 281(?) to go to Bitters Road for soccer academy.

My husband will be driving to new office around Universal City or just possibly where 410 meets 35. We are fine if the reality is he'll have a hard time getting to work from there and can leave very early. Coming back into the NEISD area in the evening shouldn't be that bad(?) we hope.

That's the million dollar question. NEISD has no bus service for kids within 2 miles of campus, so every elementary / middle school has a long line of cars outside it every morning and afternoon. I'm planning to walk child each day to avoid that fiasco.

281 is a nightmare and I personally would avoid any neighborhoods to the north and east where the highway is your only option getting to and from home / work. Many opt for Sonterra or neighborhoods closer to 1604 / 281 to avoid much of the traffic in and out of Stone Oak and along Stone Oak Parkway. We live further in, however, and that works for us too because there are any number of roads we can take to and from 281 or 1604.

I would avoid living on Evans Road (where Bush Middle School is). It's a curvy, somewhat dangerous road with 2-lanes in either direction connecting 281 to Stone Oak Parkway. Traffic is already bad on Evans and numerous apartment complexes are either under construction or being planned -- along with a massive single-family neighborhood still being built -- which will just make it worse in years to come.

If money's not an issue, I might look at Sonterra first...although off-hand I'm not entirely sure which schools they go to...

Ok, hmm....so let me see if I am following and if I may ask two more Qs...

Using 281 and StoneOak is a s%$t storm. So, E. Sonterra and loop area is a good option but then when you bring your child to school in the AM...Does it take 30 minutes to go north up 281 or Stone Oak since all the 3 available (Regan) elementary schools are north???

There are two reasons we wanted to come to NEISD. One was soccer at McAllister Park and Blossom Fields takes 50 minutes from coming down 35 from New Braunfels and the top rated schools. It sounds like being a few miles north of the fields won't save us the time Google maps suggests!

Or, Would I be pretty good with traffic going South on 281 or Stone Oak in the evenings since people are coming north at that time going home??

On 281, in the morning traffic going south is generally worse than traffic going north. In the evenings, traffic going north is much worse than traffic going south.
