Default Looking Back Fondly Years Ago

I love looking back years ago growing up in San Antonio. It's fun to remember the stores and are now long gone. I grew up in south east SA off Goliad Road just a few blocks from Kate Schenk (spelling?) Elementary. Went to school there, then Rogers Jr. High, then Highlands High where I graduated in 1973.

Earlier I read a post from someone who lived in the same general area and talked about the old places, such as Highland Hills Pharmacy, Ben Franklin, etc. I remember Winn's too, and McCrelless Mall. Anyone remember Taco Hut off Goliad? They had the best Mexican Food. I read where Floyd's Dairy Bar is still there - GREAT! Then there was What-A-Burger off Goliad, where a lady there made good burgers. Some of the kids used to kind-of make fun of her looks, but hey she made great burgers! Last but not least, Bill Millers!. Are they still there? Great food too.

Sometimes we liked going to Pecan Valley Park for a picnic. I guess back then for us city folk that was a little get-away.

Oh so many, many memories. I understand now that Brooks is no longer a Air Force base and is open to several businesses, including South East Baptist Hospital. Have they gotten rid of McCrelless yet? I read it was going to become HEB Plus. I almost forgot WoolWorths - great dimestore.

I will never, never forget SA, especially SE SA. I used to go downtown frequently and to Joskes. I now live in Southern Oklahoma near the Texas border in the country, but will never lose my memories. I miss all those long-gone stores, gone but not forgotten. I wish I could go back in time for about two weeks to relive SA like it was. Where I live is rural and of course we have WalMart, as well as Family Dollar, Dollar General and Dollar Tree, but they will never replace SE SA!.

Somewhere buried in this forum are two very large 'Gone But Not Forgotten' threads that you will probably enjoy--but spend a lot of time--reading...

Cheers! M2
