Looking for a few bids on getting a fence built. Already have one. Any references? I'm pretty picky on quality.

What type of fence are you looking for? I would recommend composite materials - no staining and 15-25 yr warranty (or at least pressure-treated wood vs. cedar. Also, go with the wider pickets. I don't know why people build fences here with those cheesey 2-3 inch pickets!) Quality Fence did our neighborhood perimeter fence. The end product was great, but you REALLY have to watch/stay on them. They often didn't show up until 2pm. They claimed it would take 2-3 days per backyard and it wound up being more like 5-6, with us having to board our dog at $30/day! They also stole our electricity. We wouldn't have minded if they ASKED us first, and if it was going to speed up the progress on our yard! The sad thing was that my husband was on the "Fence Committee" and he was the one who got the bid/quote from this company! Good luck, whatever you decide.

Oh I'm definitely going with the wide, pressure treated pickets and three cross boards, to prevent warping. I'd actually prefer to build it myself, as at least then I know what the quality will be, but I just don't have the time.

I was very happy with Ray Davila otherwise advertises as Fence Doctor. He and his team of 3 built a 70 ft privacey fence and I couldn't be happier with his work. They had to first clear out shrubbery which was a job in its own. I think it took 2 days to complete the fence and they sealed it as well. They totally cleaned up the area leaving me nothing to do but enjoy the great fence.

A friend of mine used him to repair a chain link fence gate and said she was happy with his quote and workmanship.

Are you going with nails or galvanized wood screws? At least have them use extra long screws to attach the cross boards to the posts to keep them from popping out later (something I inherited after buying our house). You might check Angie's List.

Here's another source (just type in your zip code):
