High Speed Internet: alternatives to TWC? PLEASE help!
I am so disgusted right now. Y'all would NEVER believe my Time Warner Cable nightmare if I told you (which I will eventually).... but on principle alone I want to DUMP TWC, at least the high speed internet part.
I currently have TWC bundle service for phone, internet, and digital cable. I have had TWC for over a decade. I MUST have high speed internet for my job (I work from home).. and I had Grande a couple years ago for about six months but quit them because they were idiots with billing and their "high speed" internet was very slow. They offered faster service for more money but at that point it became the same cost as TWC, and I like TWC's cable better (love that "on demand" feature).
I need to find a company that knows the true meaning of "customer service" and TWC is NOT IT.
So anyway, I am hoping to dump the TWC phone and internet if I can find a comparable alternative in terms of price and speed. I would LOVE to hear your input on this!! I am moving and figure this is the best time to switch anyway so let me hear your input on this one and I'll be forever grateful!
Thx!

AT&T Dsl, perhaps?
TWC, AT&T, and Grande are the only other companies that I know of in SA that could give you high speed internet and phone.

at & t's (or is that AT & T?)"high speed" is actually slower than TWC...or at least it used to be. I haven't seen any ads comparing the two lately, so maybe they've bumped it up a notch. They have been upgrading their network all over town (as is evident by the number of SBC trucks I've seen pulling Southwestern Bell trailers in my neighborhood...what was the name of that company, again?)
Also, in my experience (and this may be isolated) high speed cable is more reliable than DSL. I've never had any problems with a high speed cable connection regardless of the provider (I've had Comcast, Insight, and TWC).

Too bad you had trouble with Grande. We loved them when we had them, and we were disappointed when we moved and discovered that they are not available in our new house.
You've probably already spoken to a supervisor at TWC, since you seem like you have been dealing with them quite a bit. I would call them back--they truly don't want to lose your business--and just ask directly for a supervisor. Most of those phone centers are monitored and you will probably get a bit further with a supervisor--and then his/her supervisor if you don't! They do have a good product, but that is so irrelevant when the people they employ don't use common sense on the phone.

How much are you paying for the cable, hispeed internet and phone combo? I have standard cable, not the extra stuff, so i may be cheaper than your bill, but I'm paying $126 a month for highspeed internet, digital phone and cable. I have a home business, as well, and I was able to save over 60 dollars by moving my phone server to TWC since AT&T was charging me around 60-70 a month for basic phone service.

I pay about that. $120-something but also with showtime at $12 a monh.
From what I'm seeing, it seems TWC is the fastest hi speed available. That bites.
I wonder how much slower the others are... I mean, is it noticeable? It was for me with Grande a few years ago, but that was a few years ago.
I wonder if I'd notice it for everyday use and work or only when I tried to download huge files?

We go thru earthlink and they use the TWC cable lines, we use ATT callvantage (voip) and have never had a problem with that either.

What type of issues are you having with the TWC broadband connection? Are you trying to connect to a Company intranet via a VPN connection or is it just TWC itself?
At one point, I had SBC DSL and TWC Cable broadband connections at the same time. From a gaming view point, the TWC cable connection was far superior. SBC (ATT) had stability issues with the connection, at least going to my house. And the speed was noticeably higher with TWC.

I am connecting via a VPN, yes, but I didn't elaborate in my first post. My issue with TWC is not the quality of the internet service. It's the non-existent customer service. In other words, they have treated me like GARBAGE after over a decade of paying them out the nose and I am sick of it.
I'm actually quite happy with the internet service. Phone is so-so but I can deal. I've had recurring problems with digital cable (weak signals making my shows freeze and pixelate) but I can actually overlook that because I'm not a big TV watcher.... my issue is TWC's crappy customer service and it's just a matter of prinicple that has me wanting to switch, because I don't want them to make so much money off me when they are incapable of providing good customer service.
All of this has come about due to my recent attempt to transfer services, as with my last move 2 years ago, it has been an utter nightmare, and they won't do anything to FIX it and just keep offering me a $10 credit. It's such a mess that several people have recommended I take it to small claims court. They've cost me hundreds of dollars in time, lost work/wages, and it's just unreal.
Would you rather buy your groceries from Jeffery Dahmer or Mr. Rogers? The groceries are all the same. That's my issue here. TWC sucks in terms of customer service, they lie, promise things they can't provide, and apparently hire the biggest idiots they can find to handle the phones and the rudest, cockiest techs to come to your house or not show up at all (or both). It's crazy. I have had the worst experience of my life with this company. Worse than the old old days of AOL on dialup!

I switch back and forth between Road Runner and Earthlink every 6 months ) to avail of their 6 months promo that is 30 bucks... it sucks but that saves me money... I had SBC DSL before and its noticeably slow than broad band... I don't know how the new ATT is...
Well I agree TWC cable customer service especially when you call them sucks, its like it makes me wait 45 minutes to be able to get a hold of somebody...
What is your issue? Is it to waive the transfer fee or because you've been treated badly while negotiating? Well if that is their policy you have no choice. I also paid $40 (I think) to transfer my service when I moved last year. I know that sucks but I don't have a choice. If you think you have been treated badly, talk to the supervisor or manager. But other than that,
they have the transfer fee service unless there is a promotion.
