Hmmm..that sounds rough. I don't think anyone really likes turbulence..it's just part of the game.
I'd have to find another line of work if I had all of those fears...yikes!
BTW- that "Firstclassflyer" is not me on Flyertalk...I post under a different name. It is a great site...I've learned a lot there over the years.

I read Flyertalk, too. I've learned a lot from it, but I rarely post there. I think it took me 2-3 years of membership to get to 100 posts.

Me too, I am enjoying it more now though, they know what they are talking about.
FirstClass, Oh sorry, I thought it was you. Yea I can not imagine a job that had to do with flying, even though that is what my very good friend does and she loves every minute of it!

Me too..I've been flying between 200,000-300,000 miles annually for the last 12 years now. Although a lot of folks would have a tough time with it...I wouldn't have it any other way.

LovingSAT there are lots of people that have to be sedated in order to fly. That would be me, except all those types of meds make me yak. I can't win.

AirTran Airways - Home Page $200 r/t to lagurdia or newark. A 2 day bus trip for the same cost is absolutely insane if you are capable of flying. The train isn't much better.

Continental is slightly more...but they offer non-stops to Newark. AirTran is going to connect you in Atlanta. Just priced some seats for a friend...$233 each with Continental.

The train is not bad from Newark to the city either.

I love love love travelling. I love going to new places, experiencing new things. I've been to most continents and crossed major oceans more times than I can count. I DON'T like flying. Not out of any fear (I easily accept the possibility of 'if it's my time to go, it's my time"), but because I have pretty extreme motion sickness. Landings suck. Big time. The last couple have been particularly bad, I have to have the sick bag in my hand....Throw in some claustrophobia and basically flying is no fun. I accept flying as a means to an end and do my best to be comfortable - arrive early to avoid rushing, pack appropriately to avoid security hassles, wear comfy clothes/shoes, bring water and a good book, sit in the aisle so I can move. But if I could just be beamed across the Atlantic or Pacific, I'd be happy Fortunately, my 3 yr old thinks turbulence is just a fun roller coaster ride (on the last one, where I was trying desperately not to puke when it was taking 40 mins of a rocking plane to land, she was laughing hysterically and saying things like "faster! More!")
I have a good friend who loved to fly when young (often went up on small planes) and somewhere along the line developed a severe fear of flying. Recently, she realized that she was just going to have to get over it if she wanted to go anywhere, so she's very slowly been working on it. Drugs yes, but cutting back on that too. She started with a few very short 1 hour flights and a very patient and understanding husband . Now she's still needing some 'help', but has been able to take cross-country trips. It's taken a few years to get to that point though.
Anyway, you're not alone with your flying aversion.
