I just reorganized a bunch of stuff in my business.

I took on a new website, and I decided to go with Wordpress. Hosting your own site on there has a bit of a steep learning curve, but the amount of stuff you can do with it is really paying off.

One of the items I've been able to include is a twitter account that will let people know when I post.

Are any of you likely to use this kind of thing, or is it a lost cause to have? I have heard a ton of buzz about twitter, and I post blog articles about gardening and landscaping all the time, but should I stick to the search engines or do you think my customers would like the ability to see when I've published something?

I'm super happy about the incredibly simple and straight forward domain name I was able to get by the way! My www is only 10 characters long, and it's completely applicable.

Twitter is a non-issue for me. Honestly I think it's boring. Also something I don't feel like checking all the time to see whatever short messages have been updated.

Blogger though (aka blogspot), yeah I use it. I set it up to keep track of the renovations I'm doing. PM for link... I don't think they like posting that sort of thing on this site.

That's awesome. I should start installing it for other businesses as well. The theme I like is complicated, but it sure pays off! Gorgeous look.

Count me out. I have no interest in either of them.

I use wordpress for blogging purposes, but I have a hard time narrowing down my focus to even actually continue to blog successfully (at least on a personal level)...so it's a lost cause.

Twitter is for some and not for others. I like it.

For me, twitter is all automatic in my shiny new high-speed website, so I am going to use it even if nobody signs up to watch me.

I've found that for blogging I just have to find my niche. You got to pick a topic you love, and just roll with it. For me, it helps that I am in an industry that people tend to love to read about - if for informative purposes while doing their own work and nothing else.

What is your blog about? May I read it?

I use Twitter for friends but not for business. I think it's a social app that's better geared toward personal relationships rather than business ones. If you have companies on Twitter, it's just a battle of the snippets of advertising they throw at you. We have ads EVERYWHERE. We don't need to get constant updates of ads all day, too. Of course, that hasn't stopped businesses from desperately using it because well hey, a business will step over any boundary in order to make money.

I use Twitter every day, but I usually get my tweets in two ways: Through an iPhone application that pulls tweets from those I follow (mostly cyber security industry types), and through my Google RSS reader in which I have an RSS feed looking for tweets tagged "cyber" and "security." This method allows me to filter most of the noise (advertising, spam, etc.) and still get some use out of the tool.

The only time I'm not on Twitter is when I'm asleep. Its addicting getting instant everything. There is nothing more real time than Twitter. On this forum it will probably take you a while to read this post but on Twitter the 287 people that follow me will have read what I post as soon as hit update.
