Over the past year, I am seeing an increasing number of CA license plates around my area (Stone Oak). Started as a few a week about a year ago and now I see 3-4 a day! Seems a lot of people are cashing in and flocking to SA. The secrets out I guess.

Anyone else notice this??

I haven't noticed it anywhere else in town (I don't live in Stone Oak). I wonder if many of those Californians are retired, because I'm sure they aren't ALL working at the Toyota plant.

I lived in California. Loved it. Can't afford it.
I live in Florida now. Love it. Can't afford it.
I'm on my way to SA in less than 90 days.

Just stumbled onto this forum and I'm intrigued by all the discussions.

Here's my comment...I've noticed the residential properties have increased by leaps and bounds and wonder if it's because people from the coastal regions (West & East) are selling their 1200sq homes for hundreds of thousands of dollars, moving to SA, buying homes and selling them for much more than originally purchased. Multiply that exponentially and you get real estate costs going through the roof.

I was noticing the CA and IL license plates in Stone Oak back in 2004.

I'm sure it has greatly increased since then.

As for a newer occurrence, I've noticed a lot of Florida license plates on the southeast side.

So Cali people are moving to SA because of Toyota or was that a joke that went over my head? I'll go with the latter.

The two times a week I must venture out to the Stone Oak/1604 area, a majority of the vehicles bear California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York plates.

First I want to welcome to Texas the Californians that are moving here.
I've noticed a whole lot of CA plates after talking to a kids father that plays on my sons football team. He told me his neighbor in Cali told him he was selling his house and moving to Sa with no job plans, says they just can't afford the homes anymore. So, he sold his house and bought 4 over here and His father did they same. My opinion in this matter is that it might be good for the local economy, its killing the rental market because of the influx of rental house here in SA. I heard in the news that some County in Cali had started an Investigation in their own appraisal District because of the outragous recent increases property values. I am interested if anyone has data on how many are moving here. I bet its ALot

I agree. The influx of investors and transplants have driven up property values and has helped the local economy (real estate and constructions jobs especially). The rental market is bad for the investor and good for the tenant.

Property tax in Cali is based on purchase price. So if you bought a house in 2001 for $250k and your property is now worth $800k, you will still be taxed at around 1% of the $250k price. Your home does not get yearly appraisals like in other states.

You should have seen the influx of Cali people in Las Vegas and Phoenix. They really drove real estate prices through the roof.
