Job opportunities for Pharmacists & More......
I presently live in the Philippines. I'm an American... born in Memphis TX, retired U.S. Navy and have two children, American/Filipino... US CITIZENS. They are both attending college to obtain a BS in Pharmacy. The word here is..... they will also have to graduate from a Pharm.D school to become a Pharmacist. After they get their BS, PharmD we know they will have to take several exams one being a Foreign Student test and then do about 15000 hrs of internship, none of this is the problem. However, we are hoping someone will know if this is true or not.
We are planning to move to Texas upon their completion of their BS & PharmD. I have know idea of where to move, naturally the move is more for our DS & DD as the cost of living in the Philippines is great.
Hopefully, someone on the board either is or knows of a Pharmacist to provide the information, and believe me we will appreciate it. I do plan on calling the Texas Board of Pharmacy but thought I would try this first
Further, hope some of you fine folks will provide information on the Cost of Living (COL). I have done searches on the internet, but, would appreciate hearing for REAL PEOPLE. Crime, naturally that is important also, any info, opinions or statistics.... ANYONE?
I do appreciate your time and hope some will jump in and reply. THANK YOU.

Thanks firstclassflyer! Anytime you have more... send it my ways as I really want to research this out. If you ever meet a Pharmacist from the Philippines, send them my way as he/she would know all the hoops.

hi Joe..... how is this issue now?.... have you already moved to Texas?... if your children are still studying BS Pharmacy in the Philippines and planning to practise it in the US, its fine. They dont need to take up the Philippine Licensure Examination. They could either go to US and take up the Foreign Pharmacy Board Exam there.... Internship in the Philippines are just one of the pre-requisites to take up the board exam once they finished the course.

Hey pillows14,
Thanks for the check up, had all but give up checking to see if there were/are any replies.
UPDATE - Sorry to say "No" we haven't move to Texas yet and in fact have changed our mind and will be going to Camarillo, CA instead. The kids will be taking their PharmD in Manila, then going to CA and we will see all of the hoops they have to jump through. I plan to visit there either next year or in 2011 and get the straight skinny then. I understand they will have to complete 1,500 hrs of Internship, possibly a couple more test and then will be allowed to take CA Pharm Licensure Exam.
Are you now a Pharmacists and working in Texas? I still plan to take them to Texas and let them decide where they want to live. I would like Camarillo, Ca as it has the weather I want but then I like the cost of living in Texas, plus it would get me back to my roots. Bottom line is wherever is best for them.
Again, thanks for the reply and looking forward to hearing some of your experiences and any other information you would have to guide the kids down their path.
THANKS!
