Unfortunately, we just had the AC guy out here this morning. Came home from a weekend away to a house with an internal temp of 96 degrees F. We all slept great last night.
Our issue turned out to be a blown dual converter. The AC guy said you HAVE to change the filter AT LEAST once a month. Coming from changing it by the season in CO, this was news to us! The hubby went out on his lunch break and bought a whole bunch of filters.
Anyway-just passing on...

I just had a A/C guy come to my house today and told me my coils are dirty and that is why my A/C is not working correctly. I have American Home Shield(AHS) and because the cleaning of the coils is considered preventive maintenance AHS will not cover the repair of my A/C.
I was given a quote of $700-800 to pull the coil out and clean it. Just to give you all a heads up if your A/C is constantly running and the temp is going down very slowly it may be your coil is dirty.

And as an aside, AHS SUCKS. I am so glad I didn't pay for that worthless so-called warranty when I bought my house. The seller paid for it, and she got screwed, IMO.
Change your filters!!!!

I have one of those odd sized filters and i do clean them monthly, but i have 2 dogs and i guess pets can add some damage to your filter/coils.

With pets you definitely need to clean/change your filters regularly.
Just in the last week my dh has given three cans of coil cleaner to friends. 'Tis the season.

I was quoted $800-$900 to pull and REPLACE inside coils. You should be able to do it much cheaper if you are just cleaning them. Depending on your system layout, you can clean them yourself.
I bought a brand new unit last year from Cool Air. Have been very happy with their service.

that price is insane. I had my internal coil replaced by Airtron for less than $800.
as far as extended warranties, I normally hate them, but highly recommend one for an a/c system. Mine bought one outside coil, at least three insides, some switch, and a new fan. The warranty was something like $650 and those repairs would've been over $5K.
I luckily had my inside coil replaced a couple weeks ago just before the warranty expired. They tried to pull some new rule on me saying that you could only use the warranty once, but I raised the BS flag and mentioned legal action. The best part was the manufacturer finally came out with a coil that has a special covering on it to get rid of all the corrosion. That was what was killing the other ones.

You should be able to clean them yourself. Just buy the coil cleaner at home depot or Lowes, spray it, then use a brush to wipe it clean. A toilet brush works good. Be sure to go WITH the coils being very careful to NOT fold them over.
There is no need to pull your unit out. It's a NASTY job but you can do it.
