Ah, well, I lived in China for a long time, so, well, what can I say...I can say Chinese cuisine in San Antonio isn't authentic...

I know what you mean. There really aren't very many cities that do serve what you are referring to, but I am glad Houston is one of them! I used to love going for Dim Sum at Imperial Palace.

Houston is really a lot of fun isn't it, especially going through the crowds at Ding Hao market, makes me feel right at home.

I went to Mencius last week after reading this thread and its the best Chinese I have eaten here in San Antonio. I'm definitely a fan and will go all the time now!

Closest place would be Austin if you want "real" Chinese food. The two in town that are the closest to authentic Chinese are Phoenix Café off West Avenue and Blanco and the other one is Kim Wah BBQ. Both are acceptable but not the greatest compared to the ones in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

I think we need more Mexican restaurants in SA. LOL.

Oh! thanks to quattro72 for reminding me...very authentic place in Asian Market right on Spicewood Springs. Tiny little eatery in the back of the grocery store.

The two I have been to in Austin that are good are Ding Ho Chinese BBQ (Din Ho Chinese BBQ - Austin, TX, 78758 - Citysearch) and Ho Ho Chinese BBQ (Ho Ho Chinese B.B.Q. (http://www.hohochinesebbq.com - broken link)). Basically if there is the term "BBQ" after it, you know it is real.

My vote is: Kim Wah at Bandera

If in Austin: First Chinese BBQ, Ho Ho BBQ, and Ding Ho - in that order.

How I wish they open branches here in SA.

First Chinese BBQ is great - they have an egg and oyster dish which is fabulous.

I've seen two new Chinese restaurants. There's on Wurzback - just east of the Golden Wok - in a little strip mall on the South side of the road - near a little market. China Garden?

Also on Huebner , south of 1604 - Chin's and it has a sushi bar.

Anybody try these?
