Best ones I've ever had.... "Hallacas" in Venezuela
They usually have beef stew, chicken, onion, peppers, olives, raisins, etc.

The owner of the colombian restaurant on San Pedro & Jackson Keller lived many years in Venezuela and I bet anything that he makes them for Christmas.

Those actually look insanely delicious! Have you ever found any being sold simliar in SA?

They do, except that raisins go in my carrot cake, and olives belong in my martinis. Other than that, I bet they're "orale-ish!". And I'm waiting for my invitation to Pleasanton...just FB me.

I wish some of the Louisiana transplant mvoe to SA to open a tamale restaurant. Guys, I am mot talking about mom homemade tamales but tamales you would buy from Ruben of Delicious. The places over there would put those places to shame. One thing I do know is New Orleans have close to 200K Hondurans in the area

Now that I know what you are comparing them to...Delicious Tamales are nasty!! That's your problem. Try smaller places NOT Delicious, or the bigger more commercial places!! I've never had Ruben's so I can't say anything about them.

We have a small Tamale place up the street that's great I can't remember the name of it or I'd tell you.

I am also one of probably the very few in SA that find Delicious Tamales pretty crappy. They are really popular though - must be the commercials cuz the quality and flavor of their tamales is shameful IMO.

My Mom swears by some place off Rigsby, I just don't know the name but I also found those to be not that great either though she was telling me that people during the Holidays have to put in orders in October for tamales in December!

A nurse I work with brought in some his mom made....Guatamalan I think....man, were they GREAT!!! Short and FAT and wrapped in banana leaves...I will have to get the recipe from him when he gets back from deployment.
