My friend just forwarded me this video for "El Monte," a song by Girl in a Coma, who are probably San Antonio's biggest indie/alternative group right now. It's really mellow, and it has wonderful footage of Monte Vista/Tobin Hill/Woodlawn Lake.
If any outsiders (either outside SA or outside 410!) want to know what life is like here, you could do a lot worse than watching this.
Yeah, I actually like the second song more, but I didn't the video was as interesting. Nice to see these ladies showing some real SA pride! (I know they toured Europe with Morrissey not too long ago.)
I'm not an exceptionally huge fan of the music, but I have mad respect that they are proud of being from SA and take the opportunity to bring up their hometown every chance they get. Hope they continue to have greater success!!
I think they may prove to be the biggest band to ever break out of SA, they may already be. They tour all over nonstop, and were personally signed to BLACKHEART RECORDS by JOAN JETT. You will hear more from them!
Here's one of the most famous videos filmed in SA. Very popular, from the early 90's. It was filmed on the lower level of I10 (around Fredericksburg and those cross streets). I used to think it was a real traffic jam because a real one had occured in that same area shortly before they made their video. I think it inspired the video.
