We'd like to take my teenaged nephew this afternoon (plus our 6 year olds), so we're looking for interesting, but not too far since we can't leave until after 1. We have been to Cave without a Name in Boerne before, but never to Natural Bridge Caverns or any other in the area.

Thanks!!

IIIRC, Natural Bridge Caverns is the largest in the state. My son visited Inner Space Caverns recently and he said that NB was much bigger in terms of the space in the cave "rooms." The Univ of Texas link below has details on both.

In addition to Natural Bridge having a fine cave they also have a wildlife park next door which makes a nice drive thru experience.

Natural Bridge is a must.....it's just a coincidence that it happens to be convenient too! I would call ahead however and ask how the drought has effected the water level in the caverns. You'll see the actual aquifer water on the tour. It's pure crystal clear water......incredible.

Natural Bridge gets my vote. As mentioned above, also check out the Wildlife Park. We went there on a school field trip and the kids enjoyed it a lot. Innerspace is okay, but the Austin traffic makes it a really long drive to Georgetown.

What's Cave w/o a Name like? We've never been there, nor to Wonder Cave.

We took our cub scouts to Cave Without A Name and they really enjoyed it. I haven't been to Natural Bridge Caverns (have done the safari park though) so I can't compare the two; but CWAN is a pretty good experience.

My 12-yr-old, who has done both, prefers NBC. He says it has a lot more things in it, to include bats; and it's a lot bigger.

Cheers! M2

We went to NBC. We liked it a lot, but having recently been to Carlsbad Caverns, everything is small to us now! There are no bats in NBC. Many, many years ago they had them, but no longer, they say. They have evidence that they were once there that you can see.

What was nicer about CWOAN is that it is not as busy, so you don't feel like cattle moving along the path.

NBC was very pretty, though!

I think next we'll have to try the Caverns of Sonora.

BTW: last night at dusk we saw bats emerging from el Mercado...the part that has the parking garage on top. Pretty cool for an impromptu display.
