I just received an email from a student organization I belong to about this. Apparently Fred Phelps and his gang of crazies are on their way to San Antonio spread their particularly delightful brand of sacrilege and offensiveness across the city. His targets are Jewish, Catholic and non-denomination Christian churches, and, just to add an extra dimension of sickness to the whole thing, he was moved to come to San Antonio to inform us all that our sinful ways are to blame for that psychotic woman who mutilated her baby last week.

In his own words:
Quote:
"Temple Beth-El - Don't think you Jews won't eat your babies! 211 Belknap Place WBC will remind you of what the promises of God is still TODAY to those who simply will not obey: Deuteronomy 28:53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee: That is what you Jews will do, shortly. Quit acting like you are not to blame for this woman eating her baby. If you would obey, that would not have happened. Obama is on the move - by the hand of God. Praise God! AMEN!"
Yeah. This is also the guy who likes to disrupt soldiers' funerals. For a full picture of his various activities, you can either look at Wikipedia, or at his website, www.godhatesf*gs.com

If you are a member of any of the following congregations, please give your leadership a call. Many groups across San Antonio are mobilizing to protect our friends and neighbors from the hatred and vitriol Phelps brings to venues as varied as soldiers' funerals, the Supreme Court, and your local high school.

Rev. Phelps' schedule is as follows:

I think annoying and offensive is an understatement.

He's also organized protests at military funerals! Hopefully this being a strong military city, he'll get the reception he deserves!

He'll be ignored, that is the word from the local police and the above mentioned organizations.

Probably the best thing to do since I am sure his entire motivation and purpose is to incite and draw attention to his sick beliefs.

(Personally I wouldn't mind seeing him get knocked the eff out though)

This man does not stand for all Christians. He represents Christians the way homicide bombers represent Muslims.

That may be the wisest thing to do, but when someone gets out and exercises their right to free speech (no matter how hate-filled or vile) in a public place, there is always the element of vigilantism that does not follow the rules of organized anything. While this guy may be asking for it, I don't want to see the bloodshed of any innocent bystanders.

Eleanor....thank you for the warning. Hopefully anyone hearing about his schedule will stay far away from the area.

I do hope the police don't ignore him too much and at least are a presence to protect anyone from being hurt. He really has come to a very emotionally charged city to spew his beliefs. I pray that SA doesn't make the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Thank you for providing that schedule of activities, Eleanor Rigby. One of the stops listed is a place that I frequent so I just called now them to ask they alert security.

This group is non violent and actually know the laws of each city/county they visit. The will not step off of the sidewalk, won't use bull horns etc.

They have sent press releases to numerous outlets - not so much requesting covereage - but simply letting the entire city know of their presence. All organizations are aware.

As far as I know, there will not be coverage of the protests and police presence will be made visible at each stop on the "tour" for lack of better words.

This group is hardly as church and the leader is hardly a reverend. They are a cult like hate group who uses the word "church" as a guise.
