I thought I read somewhere that they were supposed to be easier for LE to read at night.....provided LE is sober. OK, that was uncalled for.

Anyway, I think this new design was somehow supposed to be easier for LE at night.

I've also noticed a lot of these new plates showing up, and while the graphics look cool, to me they seem harder to read in the daytime; haven't tried at night. To make matters worse, they now have seven alpha-numeric characters instead of the previous six. The characters are also no longer embossed into the metal plates, they are just printed on the applique.

A while back, TXDOT had a poll on their website regarding several different designs. This one was the favorite- see info here: http://www.txdot.gov/drivers_vehicle...es/default.htm

But I agree, they seem harder to read in the daytime.

I actually HATE them. Sorry.... just MHO. Some things do not need "decoration"....not unless they were specialty plates that funded some charity cause. That made sense.

Sometimes simple is better.

I would say it is very likely you will get the new plates. The fact that we have been seeing so many of these new plates in the last few weeks suggests that the courthouses and tax offices are depleting their stock of old plates.

I got my renewal today. I have to get new plates. they are 7 years old. I don;t know the rule on when you must get new plates. I need to do it in person or by mail. I don't like the new plates so I am going to opt for the "Arts" plate. I think it's cool. Looks like a Texas flag.

That is the only license plate l like too. I'd like to get them but to pay an additional amount for the plate is ridiculous. You would think that the "Arts" plate would be the standard TX plate.
