I'm looking for either a taco stand or a sit down place that has good tacos, not crispy tacos, with some good salsa. I haven't found something that reminds of the places I used to go in Santa Ana, CA. I've tried a few place but I've been mostly dissapointed with the salsas they have. It's like they make them all water downed. If it's a sit down with like a salsa bar that has red or green salsa, with carrots and jalapenos in vinegar, and grilled yellow peppers that
would be even better. I think I'm going to try that new taco truck on marbach and hunt lane just passed that Napa store. If you have any places you can share I'll appreciate it.

Nuevo Laredo . Actually El Taco Tote is a place where you can "build your own" and has that type of salsa bar. They even have Chile Toreado.

http://www.tacotote.com/

I know it's a chain..but it's not bad. They have locations in MX as well.

I'm not being sarcastic here, but your problem is that you're trying to find Cal-Mex in Texas. My dad did the very same thing. After being stationed in Los Angeles before Texas, he was forever in search of THE chile rellenos he had when in California. It never happened.

I hope you find something close, but Tex-Mex even varies all over Texas. As FCF said....border towns may be more authentic Mexican food....but not necessarily what you're looking for either. On the other hand, he seems to travel the planet weekly, so he may be your man!

It is generally agreed upon, world over, that Tex-Mex beats Cal-Mex hands down Although, I get nasty heartburn from Tex-Mex.

Yeah I guess that might be the problem. So should I stop my quest to find a good taco place or continue on?

+1 on El Taco Tote, they have good tacos and salsa, but not a location near by potranco and 1604. Once they shut down the one on Bandera the closest one is the one on I-10 and wurzbach.
