Proposed Budget cuts for Bexar County
Here is the latest budget cut proposal:
http://www.co.bexar.tx.us/prm/PDF/Pr...Powerpoint.pdf
For those of you who live outside the city limits and have had to wait 30-45 minutes for a deputy to arrive, prepare to wait even longer now. Commissioners court has decided to layoff 35 deputies.
I and many deputies have sworn to protect the citizens of Bexar County, but now we need your help. Please contact your local commissioner and let them know how wrong this is. Public safety should be increased not decreased during times like these.

Not only that, but wander on over to the County website and check out the proposed budget for 2009.
http://www.co.bexar.tx.us/prm/PDF/zz...20Overview.pdf
Bexar county wants to lay off people and cut the pay for those they dont lay off so that they can spend money they supposedly dont have to pay Deputies and others with. Commissioners voted today to give the McAllister Park Little League ball players $5,000 to help 'offset their costs' during their trip. How nice. Thats after spending 2.67 million for a ball park for them.
Riverwalk money....
Haven for Hope (funding a homeless shelter)....
Capital improvements.....
$$$$$$$$$$ Over $40 MILLION sitting around waiting to be spent on things other than staff and positions.

Yeah, I just saw that, very good point. The county will only save 2.3 million by laying off 35 deputies. Instead, these very wise commissioners are going to spend 20 times that on non-essential "new projects". I wish more citizens would inform themselves with what the county is spending their money on.
Also, since I'm ranting. They are proposing laying off our asset forfeiture deputy. That guy gets payed 50k a year and makes the county anywhere from 500k to 1 million a year for the county. Ridiculous
To be continued...

I believe the city does, but what I'm referring to is a county problem. If you live in the city then you pay city and county tax. If you live in the county then you pay just county taxes. Everyone should look into how commissioners court has been spending its citizens money over the years.

Is that link to the proposed budget public information? I ask this because the KENS story yesterday clearly stated that there would be no personnel cuts and that obviously is not the case. and has anyone looked at where the SeaWorld substation people will be moved to? It's way down by Old Hwy 90 near freaking Lackland. That sucks!
anybody in the county can call and complain about this right?

The local news only tells half of the story. Yes, anyone can complain by calling your local Commissioner's office.

Easy fix. The government should spend like the rest of us. They could lower property taxes, keep law enforcement and its easy, just cut out the stupid frivolous spending and operate on a budget that is based on income, just like the rest of us do.

Yes, gregandvicky you are correct....BUT that would mean the commissioners would have to use common sense. I have yet to see any so far.

That is how it works everywhere. People need to raise hell, be heard. All politicians at every level need to be reminded they work for us, we are the boss, they are the employee.
People need to email, makes calls and vote the elitists out at every election until they get the message.

I fully support the staff cuts -- and the pay cuts.
Most of us in the PRIVATE sector have taken pay cuts and layoffs this year and inflation is non existent so why are Bexar county employees entitled to a pay raise?
Have a look what has happened in California when you let the public sector unions run your economy into the ground....
