We have several items listed on CL San Antonio, and we have noticed a distinct decline in "hits" or inquiries. It used to be we would post something, and we would receive inquiries right away. We are selling similar types of things (mostly kid's things), and either little to no response.

I actually thought with the econmy that CL sales might go up...anyone else care to chime in?

I just sold a bike on CL but it took a couple of weeks..even went to Austin CL since they are a bigger biking community than San Antonio. I did, however, get my asking price so it all worked out.

I have heard that CL sales were up. I have bought several things recently. Maybe you need to list your ad differently, add more pictures, or just continue to repost it unitl it is sold. Even if sales are up, people go through buying periods, for instance the fact that school just started- people were probably focusing their buying on school related stuff, but now that is past, it may be easier to market for other needs. I am about to put a Halloween costume on there, myself.

There can be any number of explanations, but I sold a set of wheels and tires and a second set of tires, as well as a mini fridge, on CL a couple weeks ago and I got a considerable amount of replies to all of my ads (some more than others).

With the economy, there just may be more items on there thus explaining why you are getting a less-than-expected response; or that people aren't buying as much as they were. Of course a lot of it depends on the item itself and how much is being asked. I must've been asking too little for the tires as I got a huge response to them, to include offers over what I was asking. I got less of a response on the other set of wheels; but those were stock Jeep rims and not as desirable as aftermarket ones. As for the mini fridge, there were a lot of them on there so I had to drop the price to be competitive.

As always, pictures and a thorough explanation of the item always helps sell an item faster. Of course, a competitive price doesn't hurt either...

CL would do a lot better if they didn't restrict firearms and firearms-related items, there are other forums but it would be nice as CL reaches a much broader audience...

Cheers! M2

It's not just you. I have several items listed, detailed ads with pics and had 2 responses. And most responses end up being scammers!

What do you have for sale? Maybe I'll be interested in something.

In addition to the "Craigslist Murder" case in Massachusetts last month, there have been stories in the media lately about people being robbed and scammed on Craigslist. I think it's mostly alarmism by competitors hoping to make the site look bad, but it could be having an effect on buyers.

It's probably for the best. When I listed decent furniture items on CL in the past, all I got were scammers and weirdos asking for my stuff for basically free. No thanks! You could always pull it off and repost it in a few weeks, that way it is higher up on the totem pole. Good luck!

I listed a kitchen table and chairs and three ceilings fans last Saturday and sold them the same day for my asking price. It was my first attempt at selling something. No scammers, both were just nice couples who paid cash and were happy to get good stuff at a good price. I wish I had tried it sooner and will definitely do it again.
