House Hunting Next Week May 7-11
Hello. We will be moving to San Antonio in July and will be looking for a house to buy next week.
I will be working at Randolph AFB so our realtor suggested Schertz/Cibolo area. We have never visited San Antonio and are very excited about our move.
I've been doing quite a bit of reading on this forum and don't have any questions right now. We will have wireless access next week at the hotel so as the week goes on I am sure we will have many questions.
Just wanted to take some time and introduce myself before I start blasting out questions next week.

I have a lot of clients in the AF that I've placed near Randolph and Lackland (I'm a Realtor). Schertz, Selma, Cibolo are all great areas to be close to base. Depending on your price range, there are some great homes in Garden Ridge too. There are a lot of people that live on the north central side of town and work at Randolph too. The traffic going that direction in the morning isn't bad at all.

Welcome! July, hmmm? Well, maybe the rain will stop by then!
Schertz/Cibolo would probably be a great choice if you are working at Randolph, but there are lots of nice places on the NE side that would be good, too.

North Central
What do you define as North Central? Our realtor pointed out that homes in the area of 1604 and 281 have schools that are capped. The idea of busing my kids to a distant school is not appealing.

You can always try Windcrest too. It more in town than Schertz/Cibolo, but it's a mature area with some of the lowest crime in the San Antonio area. It's been the historic area that officers from Ft. Sam Houston and Randolph live in. The School district is NEISD same as the one at 1604/281, except the schools in Windcrest aren't capped.

The homes in Stone Oak are capping, but there's more to the north central than that.
Have your Realtor look into subdivisions in the Churchill or MacArthur district. They're still accessible to Randolph. Madison district too. The kids in Stone Oak are being sent to MacArthur right now. The north central area is spread out between about 5 schools. Only Reagan is capping. It's not as bad a situation as a lot of people are making it out to be.

I have a lot of neighbors that are Airforce, specifically doctors. It's really odd, seems as though all the new people we are meeting are airforce docs. ER, cardiologists, pediatric oncologists, then the rest of the neighbors are in real estate. They all commute from here in Sonoma Ranch and don't seem to have a problem with it. We are just west of the IH10, just outside the 1604 at Kyle Seale.
