After reading through this whole post, it's apparent that some people in this city don't have the level of appreciation to see what can be considered art. Let's also not forget the graffiti-inspired artists like Basquiat, Keith Haring and Warhol, all who ended up as legendary masters of their craft.

Would you call any of those artists 'gangbangers?' No. Haring started displaying his chalk-based work in the subways of NYC in the early '80s, developing it into a commercially-based venture along the likes of Warhol's Factory. Just because you don't have the knowledge to understand how these fledgling artists are getting their work to the masses within their medium doesn't mean it's not extreme talent and something to be encouraged.

The newest pics posted are BEAUTIFUL. Nice work. I'd love to see a mural like one of these crop up in Southtown or perhaps in the Blue Star Arts Complex. It would suit nicely.

I must admit, I'm impressed by the examples above. What I have a serious struggle with is stuff produced by "Banksy" in the UK. He has some really powerful stuff, but most of it is not exactly legal and is therefore not kosher in my mind.

Any thoughts?

Really? I'm so sorry. I hadn't noticed. I thought it was about graffiti as "art." I didn't know that we were only talking about SA artists...if you could enlighten me to who painted some of the really cool murals above, I'd really appreciate it. That way, I could be more educated about who I should be talking about.

I noticed you didn't say anything about Warhol (BN mentioned him) or some of the other names...just sayin'.

Relax, skippy.

I have pics from years ago when I painted. This is back from 1996 back in my painting days (South Florida).

I stick to black books now or canvas.

KaHaTeni is on a distinguished road
eger, the Garage picture is great. I like the Blackbook picture also but I admit that I am Grafitti illiterate! I have difficulty reading the more elaborate text/symbols.

skeet009, the Japenese themed mural is on Brazos St.. The first picture I posted is also on Brazos St. As is this mural and others...

This one is on the back wall of the H.E.B. on Commerce I think. It's part of a larger piece.

Off of Guadalupe St. near Chupaderas St. as mudpuddle mentioned earlier...

I could not find this Mechanic shop or building that displayed the mural above. I was looking for it earlier this year when I went back to see if any new works had been created in the area.

I found this one early this morning...

I wish I could have found it sooner as it looks as if the summer sun baked it some. This is at Culebra and Hamilton.

I have taken pictures of traditional grafitti art that is text/symbol based but I am having difficulties with a stubborn hard drive that they are stored on...
