Yesterday at the LV Market Days we sampled some beef tamales from a place called Tamahli. They were not too greasy and very flavorful so we decided to check out their "to go" place later that day, which is off Wurzbach/Vance Jackson. They have a pretty nice variety of tamales to choose from including the infamous banana leaf tamales. We ordered beef (which they call "cowboy tamales) the poblano (poblano peppers w cheese & corn) and the "holy moly" (banana leaf "Oaxacana style" ) The beef from the to go place were actually not as good as the ones from the market day we had earlier, but they were still pretty tasty. My fav was the poblano which were very good and not too spicy at all. The banana leaf ones were not good at all IMO, I think mostly due to the flavor of the mole they are made with - but someone else might enjoy them more so than me since I can only compare them to some Filipino ones I had several years ago. Overall they are very good, especially compared to some of the other options here in town plus they seem to offer a better variety than just your typical beef & pork.

Here's a couple of pics and the website. Enjoy!

Welcome to Tamahli

I wonder if you have to order today for Christmas?

Those look good....and I am very interested in LV Market Days--maybe you should start another thread so we can hear all about it. I've never been. Is it a good way to spend a Saturday? What do they sell? Besides tamales, of course!

I drive past that place at least once a week (it's on the way to my library), and I've wondered how they were. Thanks for the review!

They are good, have had them for a work event we used them for... Speedy Gonzalez and the Refried Bean were the ones I tried, hope I got those names right.

I need to go in and support them one of these days...

edit - Been There is the bean one, duh
edit - Looks like Speedy is renamed Poblano

Thx for the link Saph! I thought it was a really nice setup, lots of nice vendors but mostly selling very simliar stuff (ie jewlery) But you wont find any flea market type stuff, most of it is handmade. There was a lady selling these super cool teepees for kids (and pets) I really wanted one for my kids playroom but Dad said no. There were also a couple of fruit and veg vendors, I bought an eggplant. Overall, while kinda small (I think mostly due to the rain) it was a nice morning I spent wiht my kiddos.
