Default Does the Boars Head Deli Meat at HEB Taste Better?

Have always wondered this. I always get the HEB brand when I hit up the deli because well of course, it's cheaper. Any of you get Boars head or any other name brand deli meat and is it worth the price?

I love the Boarshead-- I have bought HEB and it is good too, but I just love the Boars head meat- very lean and tasty. But expensive

It depends on what meats, but overall I would have to say most deli meats are still loaded with sodium and fillers. I have tried them all, I think ones like Boar Head are slightly better than packaged lunch meats but not any better than other deli ones. Or should I say not enough better to justify the price.

BH roast beef is worth the splurge, but the rest of their lunch-meat line is not that much different in quality from HEB's to spend the extra change.

Once again, just because the packaging is snazzier doesn't mean that it's worth the upcharge... What you should really be looking at is the nutritional content and gasping at the sodium/preservative levels. It's ridiculous.

I have to concur with this statement. We have a Boar's Head Deli in the Aramark cafeteria in my office building. Needless to say, I have been eatting a variety of boar's heads meats on a weekly basis for years.

Their roast beef is exceptional, and you can see and taste the difference. As far as their ham's and turkeys...I don't taste much of a difference for other brands. One note, their ham is very wet and heavy. I am not sure if that is preservatives or the natural juices...it is good...just very wet.

We have been buying BH's Black Forest Ham for years...and because HEB's brands are so good, we decided to try theirs. WAYYYYY too salty. Not nearly as good. Boar's Head is the best, but HEB has some good ones too (just not the Black Forest Ham, IMHO).

Just my opinion.

I asked the lady at the deli counter once if the generic HEB brand deli meats contained any preservatives, fillers, etc and she said no. In her opinion, there were no differences. I don't really believe her, though.

I found the Roast Beef, turkey and liverwurst to be much better. Also their aged Swiss is great.

As a general comment - HEB seems to be ditching lots of brands to put in their own brands of variable quality.

I noticed the same. HEB, HCF, Central Market, etc brands are filling the shelves. Wonder how long it will be until they do the same in the deli....

I usually buy the Boar's Head ham and pastrami and the Butterball turkey. The HEB brands taste too salty. HEB does make a low sodium ham that isn't bad, but the Boar's Head tastes better. I can't tell that much of a difference between the BH and HEB cheeses, so I buy mostly the cheaper HEB, unless the BH is on sale. Muenster cheese just doesn't last long in our house!
