Today I was driving to work
For a while I’ve heard about how bad people drive in San Antonio when it rains
This morning I was driving to work (from Schertz to the Airport) before sunrise
I was driving on I-35 and 410 and it was raining some
I was having a really hard time seeing the lines on the highway and that got me thinking about the lighting on the highway.
Once I got to the airport on 410, the lighting was much better and you could actually see the road.

Is it me or the lighting on the highways in San Antonio is really bad and old.

I'd have to agree that's the lighting is pretty bad in some parts. While I was driving to work this morning in the rain, one of the lights on the highway went out and it just made it worse than it already was. I usually drive to work pretty early in the morning to avoid traffic and this is one of my usual complaints.

IMO, what your describing is also a symptom of either inadequate highway striping or striping that has gotten dirty from the lack of rain.

I was wondering if it was just me,
because I've driven through many cities in the Midwest and the South in the middle of the night and I remember that it always felt good to drive through the city because the highway has much better lighting.
But I guess that’s not really the case in San Antonio.
This morning I was looking at the lights on the highway, and they seem to be the same lights that would be used on an older road like Austin Highway.

I have to agree with this. That whole stretch in either underconstruction, newly reconstructed or in the plans. Possibly lighting is the last thing to be put in place. The area around the airport is newly finished (you should thank your lucky stars you were not here for THAT construction.) You can see what you have to look forward to when the NE stretch of 410 and I-35 interchange is completed.

Some places have no lighting on their freeways at all. The last time I was in both LA and San Francisco, there was no lighting on the freeways except on entrance and exit ramps.
