Hubby doesn't visit Dr Sonia Jennings any longer because he is now covered with his employer's dental plan and she isn't on the network. Can't remember the name of his current dentist; Dr. Himes on Blanco outside loop 410.She did do well in doing routine exams and such. I dunno about root canals and cosmetic stuff.
I'm totally sold on getting a second opinion ever since my dad had a lung cancer scare a while back and saw a medical mistakes show on tv after his first doctor's opinion.

Hi skeet09, I found it very interesting that Dr. Jennings suggested that your hubby remove his wisdom teeth. I recently visited Dr. Fikes in San Antonio, and he suggested I remove some wisdom teeth because they were extremely hard for them to reach to clean, so imagine how difficult it is for me to clean them! I was just wondering how your husband went about getting a second opinion with the other dentists. For example, did he have to get the 18 x-rays each time at each dentist? Or did he request the x-rays from Dr. Jennings? How much of these second opinions is covered by dental insurance? I've had braces before and can only imagine the havoc it may wreak my removing teeth post-braces. At the same time, I don't want poor dental health as it leads to other issues. Thanks!

Call who ever you want a second opinion with and set up for a consultation. Whether or not you get charged for this depends on the office. Have Dr. Jennings office email the next dentist the radiographs.

I think what Dr. Fikes said was sound advice, but take that with a grain of salt as I have not seen the condition first hand, just from what you described. There is no need to worry about previous orthodontic treatment when considering 3rd molar extractions. The two are unrelated. If the 3rd molars are becoming decayed or getting periodontal disease, they are a liability. Remove them before the periodontal disease spreads to the 2nd molars or beyond. 3rd molars are not worth the trouble of treating except for rare situations.
