Alligators, Scorpions, Coyotes, Snakes....next thing we know we are going to be posting about gun toting deers hiding in the bushes get venegance on those who speed through country back roads...

Is the alligator a one off incident, I understand about gator fish but never heard of actual gators in lakes in Texas?

I have to say even though I live off of 1604 and Culebra I never felt more close to nature than I do here in Texas. I guess thats why I love it so much.

From the article:

Alligators are native to the San Antonio River, and game wardens receive a couple of calls each year to deal with them, said Game Warden David Chavez, who took the animal from police and set it free on the river somewhere downstream from Interstate 37.

Oh, we've got gators in San Antonio!

But it is not nearly as bad as it was in Florida. When I was a student at UF 20 years ago, we had small (7'-10') gators in all of the lakes and ponds on campus. The students mostly left them alone, but occasionally some drunk frat boys would try to grab one and that never ended well…

Cheers! M2

What's the deal with releasing gators in the river? I could understand it if they release it in the old Mitchell Lake and there's methods of preventing it from getting loose. People/Kids swim and play in the river south of IH 37. Not that I recommend it. I'm thinking a new pair of boots!

They're native to the river. If I can't see the bottom, I'm not going in. It's a rule that has served me quite well over the years. I recommend it to all.

No way! That is crazy! I didn't read the article because I briefly saw it on KSAT!

Seriously I thought someone snatched him from Henderson Swamp off of the I10 and brought him here as a pet! Then they couldnt keep it so they let it go!

I thought if DH and I decided to go fishing that we wouldn't have a problem with alligators. Gonna stick to my plans of driving to Corpus Christi and sea fishing. Take my chances with a barracuda or a great white shark....

Oh the things I learn on City Data...

There are a few gators in Texas I suppose...especially southeast Texas...apparently some actually get pretty big.
