Default Smash-and-Grab Thieves Strike Skateboard Shop

Quote:
Smash-and-grab thieves broke into a West Side store early Tuesday morning, stealing thousands of dollars in skateboarding merchandise.

San Antonio police arrived at Evolution Skateboards, located in the 2600 block of North Loop 1604 West, around 3:40 a.m. to respond for a burglary alarm, a police report states. (Full Story (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/Smash-and-grab_thieves_strike_skateboard_shop.html - broken link))
OK, first and foremost, Evolution Skateboards is located at 1604 and Bitters, so it is not on the west side.

Either way, it is very sad to see this as this is my son's favorite skate shop and we know the owner pretty well. He is a really nice guy who does a lot to support the local skate scene. On numerous occasions he has hosted events at his stores providing free food and drinks for the skaters (mostly kids) as well as prizes and gifts. He really puts his heart into his business and it is a shame that low-lives steal from him.

We plan to go over there this weekend and buy some stuff from him, just to show our support. I hope those into skateboarding do the same, Evolution is one of the best skate shops in San Antonio and we would hate to see it go away!

Cheers! M2

lol at Express-News saying it's on the west side. That news paper is pretty horrible. Hope the owner has some good insurance. Reminds me of this video.

FWIW.....smash and grab robbery is happening a LOT these days....not to just skateboard shops. A sporting good store near my son's place of employment has been robbed three times in the last year. May we all go an support these small business owners. NONE of them need negative publicity that will hurt their business. Why some get on the news and others don't depends on a slow news day.

I grew up skateboarding with Lalo, the owner of Evolution. In fact I was hanging out with him Friday night when the first break in occured. There is nothing we can do to un-do what happened. But we can help him catch the theives. Talk to your kids, kids of family friends, or relatives...ask them if they know of anyone selling brand new skateboard parts very cheap. They stole a lot of stuff with the goal of selling it for cash. Your kids may not be skateboards, but maybe they heard something at school or on the bus.
Aside from the owner being a lifelong friend of mine. Thievery just really pisses me off. And on top of that..as Americans in this economy we should all be supporting the small businessman, they are the backbone of our economy. They are probably the only honest people left in the business world making an honest buck.
