Looking for contacts from Italy, or doing business in or stationed in Italy...
Hi all - I am facing a relationship situation where I will need to be in Italy (Naples) for 3-5 years and intend to return to SA after that. I may move to Italy full-time or may commute between the two countries, depending on career opportunities. I am looking for contacts out here in CD-SA who are: - from Italy and can help provide insight on life in Naples/Campania or local personal/business contacts there
- doing business with Italian companies or organizations and would be willing to share contacts or information
- formerly stationed in Naples or other Italian bases and can speak to resources available to non-married partners of military/civil service employees
We have so many military and international residents in SA, I'm sure that many CD'ers may have information or contacts that would be very very much appreciated. This is an unexpected development and I am trying to map out a plan for bridging the divide between Texas and Italy as quickly as possible.
Please feel free to DM me and I can provide my direct contact info or professional background for further conversation. Thanks!!

SilverCreek78250 was stationed in Italy during his Air Force career, you might want to try contacting him...
I've been to Italy on several occassions but was never stationed there. It is a beautiful place and I think you will enjoy it. Unfortunately, I don't think Naples has the best of reputations, I was going to go there once and my wife's boss jokingly asked me to take his car so it would get stolen (he wanted to get rid of it). They also drive very aggressively, you will learn the concept of "nose" (whoever is in front [has "nose"] has the right-of-way, no matter what. And never make eye contact with another driver!).
Cheers! M2

I have family and business interests in Naples. I'm sure you already are aware of what you are getting into as far as living in Naples...so I won't expound on that. Most of my family are in real estate and/or small business owners...I don't think this will help you any, but good luck with your venture. Tell him/her you wanna live in Capri!!

I lived in Naples for about 5 days. Hopefully you've visited and know what that traffic is like... it was nice not needing coffee to wake up, though, but my hands and feet were always killing me by the time we made it to the NSA. That would be that other NSA that's in Naples.

Sounds like the story line for a thriller! .....do we have to be left in suspense?

Naval Supply Activity, or maybe it's Naval Support Activity, I can't remember which one. They handle all the logistics for the ships in the Med

RD and M2: oh, you bet I've been warned about Naples. Crime, traffic, 6-foot piles of garbage on the street. Most people think I'm insane... but apparently love makes you insane. Fortunately, my SO is civil service and gets a huge housing allowance. I've seen pics of the new house and it's practically a palace overlooking the Bay of Naples with a view of a castle on the island of Ischia. That might make up for the traffic and the garbage, although I'm still unsure about my first mugging, which most locals have said is inevitable.
FCF: I'll DM you re your local contacts. I'm a small biz management consultant and your relatives may be able to help provide perspective on the marketplace there. Thanks!
Anyone else? I know we've had several people post over the last year or two from Italy!

I heard Humpty Dumpty died, so you'll have to do without seeing her. Luckily she was still around when I was there. That's definitely not something to miss
also, you know Naples is in the crater of a dormant volcano right? I was there a couple days before I realized we were always driving through a narrow mountain everywhere we went, like it was surrounding us..

I suggested he buy some octane booster to stretch him until he could get to a gas station, but he didn't know whether the "autoport" on base would be open on Sunday. Thanks to majormadmax's link, I was able to let him know that the store would be open from 9a-3p. Now, why the Navy doesn't let their own people know this info exists is beyond me... but thanks, M2, for the scoop!
