I once chased on out of the garage with a broom and it hissed and growled. Other than that, if you leave them alone they go on their merry way. I've stood still at night when a possum was nearby and it walked by me 2ft away totally oblivious to my presence.

They have poor vision and aren't veryy bright, but possums are like cockroaches. They'll still be here when we're gone.

Those are great shots - I never get them to hold still long enough...

It held still mainly because I was using my Panasonic FZ28 which has an 18x zoom (so I was actually a fair bit back from the tree - which is also why I had to use a separate flash), and because it was scared stiff by the dog that had just been trying to get to it. After the second picture I noticed it was trembling, and so stopped there rather than trying to get closer since I didn't want to push my luck if it was that scared.
