The "meat" in the taco is nothing but protein paste. The packages actually say textured vegetable protein. Sorry to disappoint everyone who thought it was meat.

(Taken from JITB's website)

Beef Regular Taco Filling Ingredients: Beef, Water, Textured Vegetable Protein (Soy Flour, Caramel Color), Defatted Soy Grits, Seasoning (Chili Pepper, Maltodextrin, Spices, Wheat Flour, Salt, Dry Garlic, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Corn and Wheat Gluten, Monosodium Glutamate, Dry Onion, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate, Succinic Acid), Salt, Tomato Paste, Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled Vinegar, Molasses, Corn Syrup, Water, Salt, Caramel Color, Garlic Powder, Sugar, Spices, Tamarind, Natural Flavor, Sulfiting Agent). Tortillas Ingredients: Ground Corn, Water, Lime. Contains Soy, Wheat.

So beef AND protein both.

Okay, I just remember working there and all of the boxes said "textured vegetable protein;" but that was back in 2005.

I just had a taco from there earlier(first time), and thought the meat tasted strange and I even questioned it.

I'm pretty sure I just sullied myself concerning the vegetable protein and the soy grits!

Thanks for the laugh, it was much needed. I'm thinking Jack in the Crack and Taco Hell use the same !@#$
