Yeah, that's not going to be pretty. Good luck with it.

True, but I have seen traffic piled up on that stretch of road as early as 3:00 in the afternoon on a weekday. Luckily, I have an alternate route (Leslie Rd, the NW access road) which allows me to go to Culebra without hitting all that mess!

Personally, I try to avoid 1604 anytime I think traffic may be bad. Other than my 5:30am commute to work, and the 2:00 commute home, I find alternate routes when possible.

wc2005, I was thinking the same thing about potential accidents; but if done correctly this configuration would keep traffic flow moving thus thinning it out considerably. The biggest problem seems to be the "clumps" of heavy traffic caused by the current stoplights.

And the feasibility process is only suppose to take three months. If that happens, hopefully the allocation of project money can be expedited as well and this problem resolved quickly!

Cheers! M2

Use that $10 million to put in an overpass at New Gilbeau/1604 and Braun/1604 (one long overpass would do both) and that would fix a major part of the problem. Probably would take less than half of that money to do such a project.
you have to do the study before making improvement (overpasses) anyway though, and I think it's for all of 1604 not just that section. And it can get built fairly quickly, so it will be a quick fix while the study gets completed

Simple fixes like this can be done fairly quickly. Widening Loop 1604 from Culebra to Hwy 90...more than 2 years.

I was just checking out a link that they posted up over on Braun. Pretty interesting. I hope we can avoid the toll road. Not sure but I hope it's ok to post the link.

This is from the groupd that Terri Hall speaks for. They were very helpful in stopping the previous round of toll road talks on 281.

How about adding a double turning lane on braun? As you are heading east on braun road, crossing over 1604, then taking a left to enter 1604 towards bandera. It seems the left turning lane on braun backs up while the non turning lanes are never used. I have even seen some people in the non-turning lane use it as a turning lane which can be very dangerous and easily cause an accident. This is a cheap easy fix!

Agreed, plus the protected turning time (red light from westbound Braun) needs to be increased. The turn lane rarely clears with the current settings, and the biggest problem is drivers in the opposite direction not signaling their turn onto 1604 north because they don't want to yield. That intersection needs some work, and two turn lanes with more turning time from Braun east would help tremendously!
