HEB Meat question - clearance?
Does HEB ever clearance their ground beef? I know they make fresh ground beef 3 times a day, and I also know they aren't selling all that much of it at my store.
Does HEB ever clearance price the ground beef, and if so when?
I used to shop at walmart years ago in harlingen when I was a kid with my mom, and we had to be there at 6:30 am because they would clearance all the ground beef down to .99 a lb {sometimes less}. I'm hoping to find something like that here.

You could probably ask at the store, and they'd tell you. I'm sure it's at the same time or nearly the same time every day. I no longer do that--once I bought a pork tenderloin that was on clearance--it's what I was making for dinner that night anyway--well, I threw up when I opened the wrapper and dinner ended up being peanut butter sandwiches. Never again. Sorry if that's TMI but just be aware that sometimes they may be a little lax on their rotation of product.

Americans eat too much meat anyways.
Although I ate a steak, hamburger, bacon and gonna eat some chicken in a bit
Btw, Dakota, you lived in Harlingen? I lived down the road between Harlingen/Brownsville. Got out as fast as I could...but still miss some aspects like the beach, palm trees, best citrus in the world, salt/sea breeze. DO NOT MISS THE HUMIDITY and the one dimensional culture, though.

yep - grew up there. First we lived in San Benito a block from the high school {during the riots}, and then we moved out between Harlingen & La Feria, and then to near combes.

I went meatless all week. Was only planning one day, but it was not as hard as I thought. I won't go totally without it, though--I love it too much.

I would ask at your local store. I have never seen marked down meat at the HEB on Culebra and Tezel.

LOL that's where I got the super stinky pork tenderloin. I think they sell a lot of meat so there aren't a lot of markdowns. And being the lucky person that I am, I got the nasty one.

it's hard to go without meat with food allergies - it's a main part of our diet. DD has soy, dairy, and grain allergies in addition to a few fruits & veggie allergies.
So no meat replacers for us - she needs the protein from meat.

For protein, have you considered beans and other legumes? eggs? meal replacement drinks? Fish?
