Hey, lets just have a state tax and that can pay for the schools. Lets do away with the school tax based on property taxes (it really is a joke) and let everyone truly pay what they should.

So we "need" more schools- lets just up the value of all the houses and pass a bond-great idea. I wish in this economy I could see my house for the appraised value.

Can someone please just explain to me where the school taxes are for all these new people moving here are? I mean this is why we need more schools right?
Clearly the new taxes won't be enough, or the district wouldn't be asking for it. Several folks have said that the board is full of forward thinkers, so I would think that they have a clue.

Umm continuing education..on top of the 2 degrees I have. Maybe I can learn something sure, just too busy working so I can afford to pay these crazy taxes.
You obviously don't know much about the district where your dirt is. Lots of the high schools have highly ranked water polo and diving teams that help them get scholarships to even more highly ranked universities.

I think I'm done arguing with you about all the perks living in NISD provide its residents.

Well, since I don't have kids why would I follow? I guess by not agreeing with you that equates to arguing or it is that asking for answers is just not ok with you. I thought we were all adults that can share/post our opinions about certain topics.

I sure didn't buy my dirt or my house based on the schools. But hey since the schools are so great maybe I will just sell it to someone and build our new house somewhere else.

Think I can charge extra because of the polo and diving teams?

Well, let me pull out my checkbook. They have a clue and I don't...I sure hope they are better than the city planners.

Do you know where your school tax dollars are going?

Yes, same place as yours, schools. You're just looking for trouble now, as opposed to making good points. Not my cup of tea. You enjoy.

A. Do you even own a home or pay any property taxes?

B. Perhaps you should be focusing on those student loans. Just a thought.

For NISD I do. They opened their books to us and accounted for every dime they got. I am sure if you are so interested I am sure they would do the same for you, they've got nothing to hide...

I was quite impressed not only with their transparency but also their effectiveness, as someone who has worked in the Federal government for a very long time I only wished it was run as effectively and efficiently..

Since just about all of the growth and need can be attributed to one geographical area, perhaps it's time to split the school district. The area that needs all the new schools could go ahead and tax themselves all they want while the folks living in established neighborhoods that already have plenty of schools can tax themselves accordingly. NISD has grown too big. People living around John Jay for example are being taxed to build palaces in upscale far north, almost hill country, subdivisions. I don't have dog in this fight so I don't really care how much taxes people in the NISD pay but If I lived in the district I would be wanting a palace in my neighborhood too. Or be pushing for a district split. People should be expected to pay their lifestyle but not somebody elses.
I agree with you completely. I think the district is too large. I personally have no interest in paying higher taxes, for schools or anything else.

For one, contrary to what the article says, a new bond does not necessarily equate to higher taxes. It is an "advance" to acquire properties and other assets that are cheaper now than in the future. In some instances, if the growth projections don't pan out the property can be sold for a profit.

I still have all the documentation from the bond committee and would be more than happy to serve again if asked. I would gladly donate my time to help NISD get this bond passed if it is needed!

A. No. But I understand the burdens very well (as my parents do and my previous job involved only homeowners...but you know that). This has been discussed before in other threads.

B. What does this have to do with anything? Seriously? That has nothing to do with my opinion on NISD. I don't think there is any need to bring in what is on another message board in to another message board, thanks.
