They used to not let CIVILIANS join. Is that a good reason to not do business with a solid company that has great customer service?

When I first moved here I always thought that was the main headquarters for the USDA. Took me a year or so to realize there's no "D" in the name. So this whole time I was thinking they must be testing lots and lots of meat and dairy products in that building with all the barb wires.

Spoiler
Oh well, typical stupidity on my part....like me thinking the acronym "Blvd" was a real word and you pronounced it "bluved".

Does anyone have a CC with USAA? I bank with them but don't have their CC. I'm looking to get out of my current CC, which is now held by evil BOA. BOA is looking at charging an anual fee for CC holders, even those who have never been late, delinquent, or pay off their total balances at the end of the month.

cobolt,
If you can't get one with USAA, you may want to try a credit union. Low interest rates, rewards programs, no annual fees, etc.

That is correct. Checking and savings are available to anyone in Bexar county - but not insurance. Unfortunately you can only get the "scan to deposit" feature if you ALSO have insurance with them...

If you understand the precepts of risk management, then you would understand that a clientele of military officers is a relatively safe and lucrative bunch to insure. Well educated, well paid and under the supervision of a far more accountable legal system than the civilian. USAA was not conceived as a 19th century social-club for the officer class - it was developed to serve a specific market that was being denied equitable insurance. The insurance needs of the typical officer and the typical enlisted member of the 1950s was certainly different. Things have changed since then, and so has the company.

This policy enabled USAA to grow to the company it is today - clearly something better than the ubiquitous and poor-quality military credit unions or sales-surancemen. I doubt they will miss your business much, but you really should pop out of your shell and give them a look - they are a SUPERLATIVE financial institution, and you have earned the right to membership through your service.

"The company's staff of about 22,000 workers should be able to handle up 400,000 new members without much new hiring, Robles said."

Why is it I have a hard time believing that? I suspect my service will be cut in half as the enrollment doubles.

Thanks. I was thinking that as well as I do also belong to a credit union. Just looking at all the options.
