Default Fort Hood - Shootings. Any connections to San Antonio?

Anyone watching the news? How tragic!

It is such a sad day. I feel so sad for all those families who lost someone today and for all those who were wounded. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people over at Fort Hood.

Since Fort Hood is in Killeen and outside the San Antonio area, unless there is a local connection, let's discuss this incident in the Texas forum thread. I just stickied that thread in the Texas forum to make it easier for everyone to find. With the large number of Army personnel in and from San Antonio, there could turn out to be a local connection as the details are shared with the public, so I'll leave this thread open to discuss any connections to San Antonio.

[edit]Since we had room for a second sticky thread, I also stickied this thread and clarified its scope in the title.

WOAI TV is live right now, covering the story. There are some soldiers with local connections who were affected. One texted his grandmother here that he was pinned down by gunfire, but he turned out to have escaped to safety when she called him back later.

In San Antonio, the South TX Blood & Tissue Center needs platelet donations - they sent platelets to Killeen for the Fort Hood tragedy and need donations to replenish their supply - 210-731-5590 or www.southtexasblood.org

I have a friend that works at one of the local stations here and she just sent this out in a message...
Do you have a family member at fort hood. Ft. Hood has activated a hotline if you're loooking for answers or information. 254-288-7570 or 1-866-836 2751 Hope this helps.

Heard on the radio that STBTC appointments are all booked up today, but the need for platelets is still there.

For the military or military-related folks out there the 59th Medical Wing (Wilford Hall) sent over 200 units of blood to Ft Hood yesterday. They need to replace what was sent and also to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Blood Donor Center (bldg 3524) needs 50 O positive, 25 O negative, 20 A positive, 20 A negative, 30 B positive, 20 B negative, 10 platelets, 10 AB plasma donors. If you have any questions please call 292-8145.

Well...the details have certainly changed in one day! The news is reporting that the other "two" were not involved and were released. Also the shooter is not dead as previously reported. A brilliant and brave police woman was the one that took him down without mortally wounding him. Hopefully that will help us find answers to what happened since he is alive.

Sadly, another victim has been lost. No names are released yet.
